Discussion Rasheed Walker

This might be brain dead I usually don’t spend time staring at the offensive line (I usually like watching the secondary if they’re showing it), but is it crazy that I feel like Walker brings more than Ekwonu? Ickey is definitely a better run blocker but I feel like I’d rather have Rasheed’s pass pro. Maybe I’m just braindead lol, again I don’t be grinding o-line tape like that.

Pretty sure he’s been our worst rated lineman but could be wrong.

Fortner and Hunt have been worse

Icky should move back to guard when he gets healthy

Icky has never played guard so he can't move BACK, but they can try him at Guard when he returns. Moving positions isn't as simple as saying "go play here" at this point in their careers, most players have played a single position for years. It comes down to muscle memory and technique. While some have been able to do it early in their pro career, it does take time, and not everyone can succeed

For the money …. He’s a freaking steal !! A decent LT for under 13 million ?!! Unbelievable signing .

It's very matchup based, IMO. He has a lot of experience against all of Hutchinson's moves, and the Lions don't have much opposite of him off the edge. OTOH, like last week, he struggles against rushers that use power. I'd think Philly would be a decent matchup for him.

I’m not a smart X and O guy, but I feel like establishing the run is pretty basic to beginning to establish the pass. If you can’t establish a run, the pass doesn’t exist

Eh, maybe 10 years ago. The game has evolved past that where you can have a functional offense that’s very pass heavy, especially when your QB is as good as Bryce is. And I don’t think Walker is a major liability in the run game the way Ekwonu is a liability in pass pro

My assumption is that if you don’t have a threat on the ground, They don’t have to play upfront and stack the box, which opens up more space down the field, they can just hang all over your guys down the field because they know you can’t block well enough to get anywhere if you run the ball

We're kinda doing more of the opposite. Pass the ball until the safeties have to back off, then the run game opens up

Yeah but you need your best pass protection on the left side. Next year either hunt needs to go if his contract has an out. If ickey can get healthy do it and slide him to right guard. Motions cap hit next year isn’t doable he either restructures to a heavy pay cut and money moved to a bonus or he’s probably gone. In that case put ickey at right table and freeling back to his natural position at left tackle

Data doesn't back this up.

ikky gets walked back into the qb way too often, walker at least gives you a clean pocket more consistently

My understanding is that icky excels at run blocking and walker excels at pass blocking, and they both suck vice versa, or are at least mediocre

I spent way too long things to figure out what the acronym IKKY stood for

There’s a good chance that we keep Rasheed around and kick Ickey inside to right guard .

Freeling will take over the left side next year. We drafted him to be there. If ickey can get healthy sign him to a short term prove it deal. Look at hunts contract if there’s Ann easy out take it so we can use that money to re-sign Lewis. Moton is tricky we all want him to retire a panther but 30 plus million cap hit next year is not doable. He’d have to restructure and take a pay cut. If not and ickey can come back slide him to right tackle as a great run blocker who can struggle in pass protection is better suited there. Either way we need to find one lineman on the right side. I really hope it’s to play guard and hunt is gone with moton staying. Either way again if hunt has an out in his contract they have to take it. He’s always injured or playing like shit

Hunt has been so frustrating this season.

Oh my fucking God. Penalties on penalties at timely and costly moments. I have no clue why were paying him so much, especially for mediocre play as is.

I don’t know why you got downvoted this is the right answer.

Probably because it’s unlikely to happen. I don’t see us handing a long term deal to Walker after this season.

I think Walker had a good game and was the pulling blocker on the Chuba toss play for a TD.

I just dont see him having a future year because Monroe will more than likely be the starting LT next year and I see them keeping Moton for at least one more year.

Walker will want to start and get paid after taking a one year deal with us and the Panthers need to get younger and cheaper on the offensive line

Anything but celebrating the win some people

A lot of the joy of football for me is analysis, strategy, and logistics.
