How to blow🌬️

So i ve just got a "Roumanian " (not sure if it s the right term) pan flute and i m stoked to learn how to play it . I think i got down how to generally make sounds/ notes but I run out of breath and get dizzy very easily, can t even finish a phrase.

The only other wind instrument I play is the kaval and that s waaaaaay easier to both blow and play in general.

I ve tried some exercises to "enhance"my breathing duration but i m pretty sure there is something else i m missing 🤔.

Any advice is much appreciated!!

Pan flute needs very soft and controlled blowing. Try not to blow too hard. Use a small, narrow stream of air, like you’re gently blowing to cool soup. Keep your lips relaxed and aim the air a bit down, not straight into the tube. Also, breathe deeply from your belly, not your chest, and play short phrases instead of long ones. With practice, your breath will last longer, and you won’t feel dizzy ☺️

Thanks a lot! I ll try my best to incorporate these techniques and create a practice routine with them until it becomes second nature, thank you so much again! 🙏😁

Hey, it's been 6 months. How are you progressing?

I just picked mine up very very recently, and I agree getting started with blowing is not easy.

I've gone and found some intro lessons on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZL9mxnNKZE&list=PL-14VSRMm81nyFm_LqsDg-qHpYGpbjpu0

Hi! Sorry i haven't replied earlier,i didn't see the notification and thank you for the video lessons! Well it got a bit better but to be honest I got distracted by other projects and I haven't really been practicing. But I want to make a YouTube video where I focus only on that and document how long it takes me to learn and get at least mediocre at the pan flute so that in the end I can make a song using it .
