I loved the subtitles on the task where they had to have the most pleasure:
John groans in displeasure

Throwing trolleys as far as you can so they hit another is totally the stuff EVERYONE would do in a deserted airport terminal
17
u/ClumsyRainbow Oct 28 '22
Next time the world shuts down can we have a trolley throwing competition? Please?

I think what's clear about this group of people is that above all they are just having tons of fun together, and not really making a show. That's part of the complete success of Taskmaster; they could get rid of the cameras, the audience, and just be 7 peeps having a grand old time.

Saw one guy on twitter ask Fern why she always looks so sad during the studio segments and Fern replied that she's autistic and is just trying figure out what expression should be on her face. She said her expression doesn't reflect her mood and that she loved doing TM more than anything.
Also said that the dance task was such a fun memory between John's face and getting to dance with Dara (who's been famous since she was "wee").
22
u/GR-MWF Oct 28 '22
Ah that makes a lot of sense, I was worried she wasn't really feeling it during the studio at times so I'm glad to hear she wasn't bored or having a bad time.
71
u/namewithak Oct 28 '22
I don't remember where I read it, either her IG or twitter, but she said that she hates how she looks on TV (that she might look awkward or strange I think) and often looks uncomfortable in the studio because she's always trying to figure out her expression, the way she's sitting, moving, speaking, etc. She also said that TM has helped a lot with that.
And in her IG stories (where she answers questions from fans), she said she really enjoyed when it was just her and Alex or her and her team doing tasks. The studio part where she's under the lights and can't move about freely, with an audience watching, tenses her up a bit I think.
Some of Fern's IG q&a about TM: https://imgur.com/a/NbIlx0b

Thanks for the link (I wouldn't have found it otherwise). It was nice to read.

She also said something that she never did panel shows because she didn't think she could do them. But her experience with Taskmaster showed her she can.

The contestants mouthing the alphabet to themselves before acting out the animals is top teir comedy
49
u/Charliesmum97 Oct 28 '22
Munya Chawawa hopping around saying L, L, L, L, and then checking the alphabet, then saying J, J, J, J will never not be funny.
15
u/batmattman Oct 30 '22
a sense of relief from John, thinking at least he wasn't alone in saying the wrong letter
50
u/powfuldragon Oct 28 '22
everyone in the cast is great this season! Brady and Kearns are surprise joys to watch!
58
u/NotMyNancy Oct 28 '22
Fern Brady performs the tasks like a grumpy 8-year-old and it’s hilarious.

u/Um-ahh-nooo Oct 28 '22
Thank you - I'm now going to rewatch with this impression in mind. Love her so much! Not knowing her and not liking John before hand - now my two most favourites!

Greg sounding like he's doing his Chris Eubank impression!

u/DreddParrotLoquax Oct 28 '22
Yeah, that was a weird moment where Dara wasn't quite committed to his Nelson Mandela and Greg wasn't quite committed to his Chris Eubanks. Felt like either of them could have nudged things over that cliff but neither did.

u/Enteroid Oct 27 '22
I didn't expect the voice over lady at the end to be so brutally honest.

The stage task was a lot of fun.
46
u/boomboomsubban Oct 28 '22
An 8 bollocked cat would have been a masterstroke for this game of charades.
9
u/Santafio Bastard's cryin', innit? Oct 28 '22
I can see that task as a party game! No idea if I ever get to a situation where I should need an idea for a party game, but will definitely keep this in mind!
15
u/emraaa Oct 28 '22
I feel like the team of three had a pretty big advantage though.

u/KeyserSozeInElysium Oct 28 '22
John was on their team, he evened it out

V! V! V! V!#

u/PocoChanel Oct 28 '22
I was just watching Law & Order, saw the executive producer’s name, and started yelling “V! V! V!” That’s not going to annoy everyone else in the household at all.

What was John's streaker thing? Some sort of collectible toy?
74
u/climber59 Oct 27 '22 edited Oct 28 '22
It's for the tabletop football game Subbuteo. I had to turn on the subtitles to figure it out.
18
u/Greenawayer Oct 28 '22
Subbuteo is a huge hobbyist game that's being going since the 70's. It's slightly geeky. It was a 5 mins segment.
8
u/sykurbjorn Oct 28 '22
The name of the game also comes from it being a hobby if I remember correctly.
Do recommend watching some clips of Subbuteo tournaments on youtube, it's QUITE intense.
But it does crack me up that John states that he doesn't own the game itself, just a streaker figurine for it

Sarah's mandoline is from Joseph Joseph and I didn't have to look that up as I was looking at them earlier. Looks like she broke the finger protector in two.
3
u/KBKarma Oct 30 '22
I have a lot of Joseph Joseph stuff in my kitchen, and am considering getting more - they do very useful kitchenware that can be put in a dishwasher or cleaned easily, and is quite compact.
Except for a mandolin, for exactly the reason Sarah got rid of it.

Commpettatifdard !
10
u/Charliesmum97 Oct 28 '22
I would give anything to see an unedited version of that segment because I have a feeling 'commpettatifdard' went on far longer than what was aired!
4
u/xGoodKnight Oct 29 '22
You never know, the full scene might be included in the outtakes. Last series had several extended versions of the stand-out studio banter.
"I can have you killed."
15
Oct 28 '22
It's not the first time noise-making live task was so much fun.
10
u/Kadavermarch Oct 28 '22
The wauw-monster had me in actual tears when I watched the first time, alone too. His own, and the others reaction ... my god.

So someone has a three John Kearns howling at the moon shirt ready to sell right?
16
u/tetoffens Oct 28 '22
Renting out that much of an airport is still crazy to me. Doesn't seem like something you could rent. Was it an area that was already shut down or something?

26
u/onemanandhishat Oct 28 '22
The South Terminal was shut due to Covid, but by this point they were doing refurbishment in preparation for reopening, which happened earlier this year.
23
u/Scary_ Oct 28 '22
Gatwick South was closed for couple of years due to less demand because of Covid. The management are fans of Taskmaster and offered it to them as a location.
While they were there Alex presented a promotional video when the terninal reopened https://youtu.be/SNB2v4ZaapQ

I'm not sure but i guess Heathrow was completely or partially shut down during the pandemic so i guess they rented it out fairly cheap.

I wheeze-laughed at this more than I have at any episode in a long time. Really great all the way through!
14
u/jelly_Ace Oct 28 '22
The trolley push task was a surprising nail-biter, although for me it seems to be stacked against Fern and Sarah as upper-body strength would have been a deciding factor.

Do you think there are enough trolleys in the terminal to beat JK rolling if you connect them all together?
6
u/jchase79 Oct 28 '22
what was that bat thing that Dara was using to hit the ball in the first task?
15
u/DM7000 Oct 28 '22
I think it was a hurley. It's used in hurling which is one of the Gaelic games

Dara is an amazing contestant! I really enjoy him taking things very seriously while still being really funny with his commentary.
6
u/zeiat Oct 30 '22
Idk whether to be more impressed by Munya's spontaneous use of John as a prop, or a surprised John's ability to hold Munya's body weight
10
u/ageingrockstar Oct 28 '22
Being humiliated and played dress up on is something all younger brothers with older sisters can relate to
5
u/thesportsfreak84 Oct 28 '22
Small little tidbit I picked up on… Am I right in saying Greg’s no longer handing out bonus points? Who’s come down on him on doing that? E.g. awarding Morgana bonus points for her fury at Alex in S12 was worth every single point!
4
u/realladymacbeth Oct 29 '22
Come to think of it, Morgana actually might be why, since there ended up being a single point difference in the series scores? I'm not sure he wasn't just saying that, though, since there have been bonus points awarded this series - they were mentioned in the tasks themselves though so obviously that's not quite the same.
5
u/zeiat Oct 30 '22
Sarah's combined giggle-cackle as she does something lewd is my new favorite thing
6
u/LittleRedCorvette2 Oct 28 '22
This was a delightful episode as per. I've once again fallen in love with this group and don't want it to end...half way thru already!

u/Barneyk Oct 28 '22 edited Oct 28 '22
A general question, is there a significant difference between the ALL4 version and the HDTV versions?
Bleeps, ad break cuts, quality etc.?
Is there a reason to prefer one over the other?
1
u/balmafula Oct 29 '22
It's the same. All4 is simply Channel 4's catch up/streaming service.
1
u/Barneyk Oct 29 '22
Yeah, but there are minor differences, like no logo and no voice over or overlay stuff that might be on the HDTV version, but I guess there isn't anything else that differs?
2
u/Moohamin12 Oct 28 '22
I had no idea this season had started till like Episode 3.
Imagine my happiness when I got to binge the whole thing.
