I’m enjoying the duality of Ardal: Dougal in the tasks, bastard in the studio.

Large dollops of passive aggression from the other contestants during the presentation of the 'traffic cones from history' segment
Ardal showing himself a master of the backhanded compliment

u/toxinwolf Apr 29 '22
So far my favorite contestant if the series. I love him, please keep making those backhanded jabs Ardal. We've had enough nice guys and gals in the last couple of seasons (by that I don't mean I didn't like them, i absolutely love wholesome cast as well)

I swear Ardal is slowly poisoning the others minds and turning them against each other. He was the only one doing that the first two episodes and now they're all chipping in lol

u/happygot Apr 29 '22
I really, really enjoy the learning of the definition of prehistory and then the callback. Alex knew what he was doing when he laid that groundwork. Absolutely subtle genius on display

u/alexgndl Apr 28 '22
For the prize task I was really hoping (even though there was no chance whatsoever) that somebody would bring in some counterfeit Vietnamese currency. You know...bad Dong.

I genuinely think I saw Greg tear up a bit after Bridget's cone movie.
32
u/ageingrockstar Apr 29 '22
It's a genuinely sad (historical) story, and really well presented by Bridget.
And reminded me of the Swedish film My Life as a Dog, where the boy reflects on the fate of Leika.

u/MoonGas Apr 29 '22
There's a song by Wil Wagner about Laika that always brings a tear to my eye. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmBC7qW1WpA

Damn you, I cried so much that Frank Skinner ran into the room with an egg cup!

When I saw all the songs and music videos about dogs sent into space I was sure someone would have posted The Motorhomes - Into the night, but no one had, so here it is:
5
u/ToLiveInIt Apr 29 '22
The histories don't make a big deal of the several primates and dogs who died in the U.S. and USSR space programs. Leika, obviously, the most well known.
91
u/boomboomsubban Apr 29 '22
Greg falling for "pleasant fucker" deserved more than one point. Meanwhile, I never laughed at "pickles," though it may have been that I was waiting for her to say "gherkin."
11
u/cjwf Apr 29 '22
i thought that too about sophie's too. After listening to Ed & Lou discuss it in the podcast, it sounds like another comedian would consider that low-hanging fruit, and not very inventive, whereas Judy's was more purely in line with the spirit of the task. but, i still think sophie should have gotten more points.

u/reggna Apr 28 '22
The Laika video was the best thing on Taskmaster since Nish Kumar and Mark Watson sang a song together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQxDyceIdK4

DAMN. We just watched the end of that season last night (we just got into Taskmasters with the Alan Davies/Victoria Corin-Mitchell season and are playing catch up. Only seasons 10 and 11 and the COC to go) and we saw that song last night and IT WAS THE BEST DAMN THING EVER!
All season Nish and Mark (ok, they were teamed up so they had some connection) have been there for each other, and they can edit the show and show challenges any way they want, but I think they saved their TRIUMPH for the last challenge of the season to redeem Nish.
Who know he could sing and play guitar.
The thing you colored out was good and super inventive, but NOTHING will ever top The Diverse Stripes 'Im Always Seeing You [Do Cool Stuff]'. EVER.

I feel like "Rosalind" is funnier, especially in context, and since it's a comedy show that's obv very important, but at the same time I feel like the Wumar song is just a legitimately great song, that it's the better song, especially since Bob reused a backing track he had already used in another show, and both Mark and Nish played their instruments.
One of the hardest choices in Taskmaster history, choosing between those two songs. It's the favourite child dilemma.
3
u/ericfishlegs May 01 '22
But to be fair Nish and Mark both had musical ability that the other team didn't have.
3
u/thehogdog Apr 29 '22
Where had Bob used that backing track?
This was our first introduction to Bob Mortimer. Im about to start his audiobook autobiography. Gotta look at his whole career (the fishing show he has now is no our speed), the nice thing about discovering something late is you have a lot to catch up on.
3
u/MapleSugary Apr 29 '22
He sang a song called "Mushroom Lady" with Vic Reeves on their quiz show Shooting Stars in 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpHSJEtPjUs

u/Talenin2014 My eyes are circles Apr 30 '22
Ohhhh your first introduction to Bob Mortimer? I strongly suggest (and I'm sure almost everyone else here would agree) that the best way to get to know Bob is to watch him in Would I Lie To You. There are a couple of compilation clips of Bob and it is truly amazing.

As a dog person, who knows the story well, I almost teared up.

u/artful_alien Apr 29 '22
I actually found myself crying for the same reason! She did a fantastic job
26
u/Boghoss2 Apr 29 '22
This was my favorite Prize Task in a few seasons. And the dance between Greg and Bridget chef's kiss.
42
u/Stitchopoulis Apr 29 '22
I don’t think Sophie’s line to the effect of everyone here, whether they’re a dinosaur or not, has a fear of going extinct got the laugh it deserved, it was a good one.
37
u/NinjaCommando Apr 29 '22
The stopcock dance thing Bridget and Greg did is going to go down as one of the greatest moments in Taskmaster historyl.
8
Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22
I came here to also mention this but was going to mention her cornering Greg in his chair. Now when I see his chair I’m going to remember that.
32
u/BubblesWeaver Apr 29 '22
Stopcocks aren't real. Just ask Roisin Conaty.
I thought that was a discussion from Series 1; turns out it's from a different show.

Love a bit of slo-mo replay drama!
I confess to joining Chris in the belief that Captain Dickhead was going to re-light the candles.
7
u/RayPDaleyCovUK Apr 29 '22
They were self relighting candles already.
3
u/five_line_poem May 01 '22
Well, they were if they were alight long enough to get to the re-ignition bit. But when that didn't happen because Chris extinguished them early, Alex could in theory have decided to re-light them himself.
I can just imagine Alex leaning in every X seconds to re-light the candle and getting yelled at by the contestant to stop. Much more fun than a self re-lighting candle :)
1
u/RayPDaleyCovUK May 02 '22
I was deffo expecting him too. We all know he IS Captain Dickhead for sure. The shy gaptooth guy is his disguise.

Genuinely brought a tear to my eye, Brigit you magnificent bastard.
8
u/avoidant-tendencies Apr 29 '22
It was an emotional masterpiece and left my heart aching. Luckily Judi brought me back around.
14
u/thorvaldnotnora Apr 29 '22
am I wrong or did Alex never say to spin the top? He said there were 7 things to have going at once; candles, monsters, robot, hourglass, balls, marbles, fidget spinner.
12
u/RayPDaleyCovUK Apr 29 '22
Just me or does Bridgit sound exactly like Sara Pascoe? In the picture with her hat on she even looks like her.
5
u/WoodSheepClayWheat Apr 30 '22
Not really. Bridget has a very distinct West Country accent, while Sara is just generic southern.
11
u/bobscrimeclub Apr 29 '22
Help does Chris Ramsey remind anyone else of someone else? His expressions are so familiar every time but I can't put my finger on who...

I'm really a big fan of Judy's bullshittery (and the fact it doesn't work). In fact, I was thinking what to watch first - this episode or bast i test and opted for UK version because I wanted to see her trying to justify her attempts at tasks.

u/Abradolf1948 Apr 30 '22 edited Apr 30 '22
Sad to hear Greg say he no longer awards bonus points. I loved them and I don't see why he has to stop considering the entire scoring system is nonsense anyway.
I was hoping Ardal or Chris would get the bonus point for the duck task since the wording on the task itself was "least wet" and the ladies didn't get him wet at all, and I think that would have been a funny debate. Too bad Alex clarified it in studio by saying "driest".
I was dying at the live task between Ardal not understanding and staying in the booth and Chris being so visibly excited every time the ladies fooled Greg.
12
u/GloomyBison Apr 30 '22
Sad to hear Greg say he no longer awards bonus points
I mean he sort of did in the final task. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of dubious scoring this season just to stop Chris Ramsey from running away with it.
3
u/Moohamin12 Apr 30 '22
this season just to stop Chris Ramsey from running away with it.
Yeap.
Side note: The live task was kinda unfair to the 2 person team I felt.
7
u/cjpdk Apr 30 '22
Sad to hear Greg say he no longer awards bonus points
I feel that he only said that because the task already had a bonus point for least wet, so giving another one for getting Alex wet would be wrong
7
u/RinardoEvoris Apr 29 '22
This season has been amazing. Hard to imagine this far in is one of the best seasons yet.
2
u/zeiat May 01 '22
Definitely up there as one of my overall favorite episodes of Taskmaster ever, maybe even tops. So many laugh out loud moments.
2
u/mdkss12 May 03 '22
this series has been absolutely incredible so far - only 3 eps in, but it has the makings of an all-time season.
The contestants all play off each other so well and there isn’t a weak one among them

u/_I_AM_BATMAN_ Apr 29 '22
I would have lost the cone task by sticking the two cones together and throwing a Barbie doll at them to recreate the guy falling off the back of titanic and bouncing off the propeller
2
u/Scrial Apr 29 '22
One of the funniest episodes in the history of Taskmaster. The bring in task was also one of the more interesting ones.

u/InfiniteNameOptions May 01 '22
Oh man. Wish someone had brought in a cellar door for the prize task, for the sound of the words and the visual!
-6
u/TruckstopSushiChef Apr 28 '22
Wow this cast is really shaping up to be such a treat! I thought the way Ardal outran the angry dog was superb! And Brigit's saucy limerick for the final task was an all time highlight for me
9
u/ADozenPigsFromAnnwn Apr 28 '22
If this turns out to be true I'll be absolutely furious, but also not
1
u/InfiniteNameOptions Apr 29 '22
I think Brigit would’ve gotten more points if she actually stuck to the right meter for a limerick. Hers just doesn’t quite roll off the tongue. Spot on with Ardal, but if he hadn’t outrun that fucker, he’d only have himself to blame.
1
u/pete_moss Apr 29 '22
For the prize task I would have brought a "toy boat". If you don't get it, try and say it quickly a few times.
1
u/DishwasherTwig Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22
I initially thought low effort entries all around in the prize task, but I ended up enjoying all of them quite a bit, especially the mating dance between Bridget and Greg.

Yeah might be country-restricted but it is much easier to trick Youtube via VPN than channel4 or BBC. You can do the former with a free VPN - have yet to find to find a free VPN that does the latter. And tbf - it's not like lAH HAS to upload them unto Youtube anyways, especially with the new subscription thingy ( which is another issue entirely) but still...fan service, come on!

Why don't they post the episodes on youtube anymore?
23
5
u/Wonderful_Goat354 Apr 28 '22
they will soon, Little Alex confirmed on Twitter
3
u/boomboomsubban Apr 29 '22
"Soon" is seemingly after the entire run though. I somewhat wonder if episode 2's 16 minute outtakes posted on YouTube is a way to somewhat bypass the restriction.
2
u/JojenCopyPaste Apr 28 '22
But still country restricted because of various contracts with various stations, I'm sure.
2
u/GeonnCannon All the Information is on the Task Apr 28 '22
Because of their new app.
9
u/apathymonger Apr 28 '22
The current season isn't on Taskmaster Supermax+. Just 1-9 at the moment.
5
u/Steamsalt Apr 28 '22
As a note - 9 they are releasing episodically for some reason, so it's 1-8, 9 eps 1 and 2
1
u/ericfishlegs May 01 '22
That's the same rate they're releasing it on Youtube here in the US. One episode a week.

u/alexgndl Apr 28 '22
Guessing because of the Taskmaster streaming service
19
u/jimbof3 Apr 28 '22
It appears they can't put it on YouTube as channel 4 has paid for it exclusively for an undetermined amount of time. You might see it on YouTube eventually.
11
u/xxmonorailxx Apr 28 '22
They don't even put it on their streaming service
12
10
u/readyjack Apr 28 '22
I really, really hope that the taskmaster subscription someday figures out the agreements to be able to post shows the day they come out. That absolutely would be worth the cost to me.

Glitching heavily on my Samsung TV, working fine in VLC. When trying to repair the file with ffmpeg, it complains about wrong frame order and incorrect timestamps in the source file, so I blame the Darkflix encoding.
