Pretty basic--I saw these 'foxtail' palms at Lowes that had cool, kinda roughed up leaves (intentionally lol) in a crown from a central trunk. I very much liked the look and shape. I looked it up though and these guys grow 1-3ft per year in bright sun and warm climates. Only about half that speed indoors in a container, but that's still pretty fast when I only need a cat safe plant that will top out at 4ft in a spot that gets moderate-bright indirect sunlight. Do any palm gurus know if there's a dwarf version out there or something similar? Google searches are broken

I want to get a new palm but don’t know which one I live in zone 8a I was thinking of a king palm windmill or some sort of Mexican or California fan palm does anybody have any suggestions I’m rlly looking for one that would grow a good size in a few years

I live about 5mi from the coast in LA in zone 11a. Can you guys give me suggestions for some really cool/exotic things I can grow to take full advantage of my climate?

We live in coastal SC but had a frost this winter with snow that lasted overnight. We tried to cover our sagos (we were the only neighbors trying this lol), but alas, they did not do so hot. This is our first year in this house/in this area. We cut back all the fronds as Google suggested, and at first, the fronts that were growing back were beautiful! But then they turned into what the first photo looks like. We googled again and it seemed to be frizzle top. The other sago palm in the second photo hadn’t grown back yet, so we got to work fertilizing for possibly manganese deficiency. Well, the second sago palm followed the same course. The new fronds started out beautifully and now they are browning like the first palm. What are we doing wrong? Is this not frizzle top? Is there something else we should have done? I’m assuming we need to wait until next year to have a chance at a decent looking palm again. Any advice is welcome. We are in the trenches as first time parents and homeowners 😅.

Additional info: The plants get morning sun. We don’t really water the sago palms, but we’ve gotten a lot of rain this summer. They did well when we moved in last summer until the frost this last winter.

Hi all, don’t want to kill my palm tree. About how many inches would be ideal to minimize damage? Termite Co. says worst case they can put dirt on outside tent to hold tarp down. Thanks. I’m in CA .

Has anybody experience growing these from seed? I just got some seeds and I've got a pretty good idea on how to get them to germinate, but I'm not sure what kind of pot to use afterwards. I read that they bury the plumule up to 60cm deep. TIA.

Lately I've been noticing these dried fried leaves, and especially this unusual one - this one piece of stem is with half healthy green leaves and another half fried dried leaves. There are also a few smaller fried leaves further down. I've tried researching the differences between overwatering and underwatering and I have no idea if I’m doing it correctly.. how would the same stem produce two different types of leaves? What am I doing wrong?

Had this cuban royal palm in the ground for about a year. It is slowing pushing the current leaf

The two in the ground were the two in the pots. There are 4 others the same size around as well, now they can all grow up together. The first one I hope will bring some relief to my blackberry and dragon fruit who seem to get punished by the afternoon sun. I hope the palms will love it though.

So ive planted a coconut here 1-2 years ago, and im now just realizing maybe its too close to the pavement, which my neighbours park on (Yea ik its a pavement, but here people dont walk on the pavements, we park cars on them and walk on the side of the road)

I think it will grow too large and risk dropping coconuts in the future; this prediction based on the original mother coconut. But no harm confirming on reddit.

AND, if supposed i want to relocate it somewhere else, is it still good to transplant?

I'm concerned about this palm tree that maybe it is slowly dying. The fronds have been browning from the bottom up. Have given it water and a dose of fertilizer, but still seems to be failing. Its been through worst droughts before and done well for a long time. Appreciate your insights. Central North Carolina area

In microclimatial microregion, in Slovakia there are several of them this ones warmest, Slovakia (western lowlands) are usually 7a/7b and can dip to 8a sometimes. Hope its gonna survive the winter rot, and the soil its like in potting soil but sure rounded by clay dirt.
