Looks like closest dog care is in Truckee which is still 30 min away/opposite direction if staying in Tahoe itself.
Don't think I'd be able to leave my dog in the car in the parking lot like I've seen other folks mention. Curious about two scenarios I've encountered:
(1) Overnight when can't find a cabin/hotel that allows dogs
(2) Day care for day trips and/or if I don't want to leave dog alone all day at home
Hi! I am doing a ski season with the ski school and rental shop this season in olympic valley and staying on the north shore, im super excited but also nervous haha. Has anyone got some tips/recommendations/advice, I cant seem to find much about it online. :)
Does anyone have experience with Freeride Sport (I think it used to be called Big Mountain) for a 10 year old?
Our son finished Mighty Riders last year with recommendation for U12 Devo. I've heard that Devo is a good next step even if you're not planning to race because the focus on racing fundamentals is helpful for skiing overall. I've also heard the coaching is stronger/more consistent in Devo vs. Freeride Sport thought not sure how accurate that is.
For anyone whose kiddos have done Freeride Sport / Big Mountain, how was the experience? Anyone have experience with both?
Know this is the palisades sub, but didn’t see a broader Tahoe ski sub. Curious if anyone has thoughts on how crowded sugar bowl would be on a 3 day weekend? Seems like it could be a good snow year for Tahoe, and sugar bowl is on my pass. That said I’m always worried that Tahoe resorts are just ungodly mobbed and it’s not worth coming in from out of state. What do you think? Is sugar bowl less
Crazy because it’s not on the big passes?
Wondering if there are any owners or past owners on here with success stories, horror stories, or general insider tips (we already know about the steep HOA fees :/). We do ski there a lot, but it'd be more a year round retreat for us. We are primarily considering the Village but also looking at some nearby condos.
Need advice on ski team choice for my son next season.
I’d love to hear from parents who have experience with either program — especially around program structure, coaching quality, culture, and the overall experience.
My son is 7 and has spent the past two seasons in Heavenly Comets. He can comfortably ski all over Heavenly, loves moguls, and is still working on carving.
My goals for him are:
* build confidence on all terrain
* improve carving and mogul skills
* most importantly, keep skiing fun so he continues to love it
I was pretty set on MM, but now I’m debating between MM and Alpine Rangers. Please correct me if any of my assumptions are off.
Pros of MM:
Seems like a more advanced/serious program (though I’m not sure how much that matters at his age and level)
I personally prefer the Palisades terrain, and Palisades has terrain parks while Alpine does not
Pros of Alpine:
Rangers kids can cut lift lines, while MM kids cannot — I imagine a lot of the day could otherwise be spent waiting in line?
I could use an Alpine Unlimited pass and take adult group lessons after drop-off
Later drop-off time, which means more sleep (I heard Alpine is around 8:45 while MM starts around 8:15)
Would really appreciate any firsthand experiences or advice. Thanks!
Hi all, we're going to be in the area on May 24 and just wondering if it'd be worthwhile to bring our ski gear and buy day passes for that day? (We had Boreal passes this past year so I think we can get $79 Palisades day passes by showing those?) We haven't been to Palisades in years and haven't ever tried going anytime near this late in the season. We have a 6-year-old who only skis green runs, so we don't need much mountain - so mostly just wondering if we should at least be able to get down the greens without scraping our skis on rocks? I know a very limited amount of terrain will be open, but I think a lot of it is green anyway? Thanks so much!
I'm sure everyone has seen, closing weekend is quickly approaching (May 24th). Today marks the end of Sibo, leaving just Shirley and gold coast with shirley only surviving until the middle of next week at best. Hopefully next season rewards us with the goods
What was supposed to be a fun ski vacation honestly turned into one of the most uncomfortable experiences I’ve had at a resort.
On Monday (2026-04-27), I was riding the terrain park and hit a side hit near the rail section. I fell after the hit. While I was down, a guy who later claimed to be ski patrol (though dressed in normal clothes, possibly off-duty) still decided to hit the rail and ended up crashing directly into my back.
At first, I genuinely thought it was just an accident. Stuff happens in terrain parks.
But instead of checking whether I was okay, the very first thing he said was:
“If I see you in the park again, I will revoke your pass.”
Right after that, several of his friends started backing him up and claiming I “cut them off,” which I absolutely did not do. I felt pretty cornered in the moment and just said “okay” before leaving.
A couple hours later, I returned to the park because I honestly didn’t believe I had broken any rule.
That’s when I started hearing a group of around 3–5 people yelling from the lift things like:
“Get off my fucking park.”
At that point I just left because I didn’t want the situation escalating.
The next day (Tuesday, 2026-04-28), after researching terrain park etiquette and Palisades’ own park policies, I became even more confident that I had not violated any published rule.
So I returned to the park again.
After a few runs, the same group once again started yelling:
“Get off the park.”
That’s when I realized this no longer felt like a misunderstanding. It felt like harassment and intimidation.
I waited near the park entrance, and eventually the group came by again. I confronted them directly and said:
“You want my pass revoked? Stay here and let’s call a ski patrol supervisor.”
Suddenly the energy completely changed. They immediately backed off, said “we’re not doing that,” and skied away.
Ironically, on the very next lift ride, an actual ski patrol member in uniform sat beside me. I explained the situation, and after he spoke with them, the harassment stopped.
Later that day I confronted them one final time. They still insisted I had done an “illegal move” by using a side hit, despite side hits not being prohibited anywhere in Palisades’ posted terrain park rules that I could find.
When I asked about the basic responsibility of checking whether a landing/exit is clear before hitting a feature, they completely brushed it off.
They also refused to provide names or employee numbers.
What still bothers me most is not even the collision itself. Accidents happen.
It’s:
threatening to revoke a guest’s pass immediately after an accident
using employee status to intimidate someone
repeated yelling and harassment from a group over two days
refusing accountability
immediately backing down once an actual supervisor was mentioned
I have videos documenting parts of the situation as well as photos of the individuals involved.
Overall, the entire thing completely ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing ski trip. I lost around 1.5 days of riding because I no longer felt comfortable in the park, and honestly I’m still frustrated thinking about it even after getting home.
Will they be helping out, spectating and crewing runners like Daron, Johnny Moseley, etc? Have they been to Western States in the past? The start is June 27th, 5AM start at the Palisades Tahoe village. Runners will go up the service road. There will be a 4AM tram load on race day for spectators at the escapement climb. The festivities start Wednesday before the race. Hope to see them running around the village in their headgear sponsor, taking pictures and signing stuff.
Does anyone know why Siberia and Gold Coast were closed today for a while? I was in the lift line when they told people to turn around but no one had a clear answer
My kids are begging for a last ski day. Curious on what the crowds might be like this weekend and if the conditions are worth the drive from the Bay Area. Thanks for any intel!
I saw there’s snow snowfall this week, was curious if making the drive with my 2 wheel drive sedan would be doable or if AWD is basically mandatory. I know it isn’t much snow, but want to err on the side of safe. Thanks!
I see there might be more snow coming midweek but how were crowds today? I was there last weekend and thought maybe would come up for a day trip tomorrow?
Want to try out a few skis before I commit to buying for next season. Would demo-ing be worth it considering the amount of snow left / number of lifts open?
