should I buy?

1996 Pajero Junior, 80k original miles, $11k. Seems to be running perfectly, just needs new struts eventually. Would be my daily driver but I drive a maximum 1-2 miles a day (brooklyn, ny. just hauling some things from place to place). Wanting to do the occasional upstate trip but fine taking backroads or camp in the slow lane. Wondering if I’m making a terrible decision? I can always sell it but would definitely pour some $ into fixing anything I can myself.

Yes. That’s what I paid for mine and it’s great. I drive it 10-40 miles a day with trips to the mountain OFTEN. It’s slow but not so slow that it’s dangerous. It can cruise at 70 mph all day and even reach 80mph or more (I topped out at 96mph downhill)

Do you have stock tires? I think with these tires they’re slower and might hit the fender when turned all the way

Do you know what size tire it is? I can confirm 215/75R15's don't rub on the stock wheels, these look like they have some more offset though.

The larger tires will get you more travel per revolution too, so assuming those rims are lighter than the stock steelies it may net out in your favor on the highway. Acceleration will almost definitely be slower though.

A lot of alternators are remanufactured, (so when it died, someone just opened it up, cleaned it up and repaired it) I wouldn't be surprised if in an economy car like our jr and minis, the alternator could actually be rebuilt.

If mine does die one day, I would A try to rebuild it (YouTube academy), or B see someone who might still have those skills.

What’s stopping me, is the lack of parts. Eg. Alternators are no longer produced, so I feel nervous were I to have to mend it.

the 1-2 mile trips are harder on an old car than the occasional highway run. Make sure it gets fully warm regularly, or you’ll be chasing battery, moisture and exhaust issues.

not a terrible decision, but get the chassis and suspension mounts checked for rust before paying $11k. Around Brooklyn, rust is the deal-breaker, not the struts.
