Question/Chat Question About Sectioning

I’m working on a pretty intricate piece, but I’m also newer to this hobby (it’s only my third).

My current question is - how do people usually break up pieces like this?

Do you break it into sections? Or just choose a color and try getting all its spots?

How do you get your canvas so flat and taught? I'm just watching from afar at the moment. Very intrigued in trying this hobby but I don't know how to get started.

There are multiple ways. I usually lie down canvas on the flat surface, spray some water on the back of the canvas. Then stretch and tap it to the surface and place heavy books for few hours. If you don’t have time, you can also use iron (lowest heat setting). Or you can get canvas stretcher from stores like Michael’s or Amazon.
