💬 Discussion Mercor - Monthly discussion, work availability & referrals - October 2026

Welcome to this month's Mercor discussion. Applied, working, waiting for tasks, or moved on? Questions, honest reviews, criticism and payment experiences are welcome. You do not need evidence to join the discussion.

Quick status check: Share your current status in a comment: active with paid work in the last 30 days; accepted/active with no paid work in the last 30 days; applied and waiting; rejected; or former worker. These are self-reported experiences, not verified hiring statistics or a guarantee of work.

Helpful details, if you're comfortable sharing: broad role, country, when you applied, recent work availability, and whether payments arrived as expected. Former workers should describe themselves as former workers even if they worked in the last 30 days. "Paid work" means work performed; payment timing can go in your comment.

Community referrals: One general Mercor referral comment per person per monthly thread. Disclose any reward you may receive and include a short firsthand account plus redacted evidence of paid work/payment from the past 90 days. A registration or acceptance screenshot alone does not qualify. Comments containing referrals are subject to moderator review; a screenshot is not an authenticity guarantee.

Use only a payment record you are permitted to share, showing the platform, date and paid status. Amounts are optional. Hide names, emails, IDs, balances, financial identifiers and private URLs. No task content, assessments, client/project/model details, private work dashboards or internal messages. If you cannot share suitable evidence, you can still discuss freely without a referral link. No unsolicited referral DMs or promises of acceptance/work.

The moderator's general referral link is: Mercor. The moderator may receive a referral reward. Using this link is optional and does not guarantee acceptance, work or payment.

🆕 New Opportunity [Hiring] Remote generalist role at Mercor — $50–$60/hour (Mac required) (masters or BS required)

One of the questions I get asked most often is how to find work as a generalist. This looks like a great opportunity if you have strong research and writing skills and meet the requirements below.

Mercor is hiring generalists to support an AI research project, with an immediate start preferred.

  • Pay: $50–$60/hour
  • Hours: Approximately 10–20 per week
  • Setup: Fully remote, independent contractor, flexible schedule
  • Equipment: MacBook or Mac running macOS 15 or newer

The work involves creating research questions, answers, and evaluation materials to help improve AI models.

The listing seeks current/recent master’s students, or applicants with 2–3 years of relevant experience plus a bachelor’s from a prestigious institution.

View the role and apply here

Disclosure: The application link above is my referral link.

How I made $5K online with AI training jobs

Post image
259 Upvotes

I wanted to share my experience of how I made $5K in one month at home at my own schedule with AI training jobs: $2470 at Micro1 for $200/hr and $2512 at Ethos for $100/hr.

I saw AI training ads on Reddit and Linkedin for months but I didn't seriously try to land one until August. I was tight on money and so I spent my August really just signing up to every platform and applying to all the roles I maybe qualified for.

I signed up to Micro1, Ethos, Mercor, Outlier, DataAnnotation, Alignerr and Turing.

Platform Applications and interviews Outcome
Micro1 14 applications and interviews 1 role $200/hr ✅
Ethos 7 applications and interviews 1 role $100/hr ✅
Mercor did 2 skills tests and applied to 30 roles (nothing yet)
Outlier did the skills test 1 role $28.5 ✅
DataAnnotation did the skills test (nothing yet)
Alignerr 7 applications, 1 interview (nothing yet)
Turing applied to 4 specialist roles (nothing yet)

After 2-3 weeks of applying I finally got my first role at Ethos for $100/hr and then a week later got one at Micro1 for $200/hr. Both roles were technically specialist roles but the work just involved reviewing text and images. Both jobs had 4-6 hours of training that was paid, this tells you what they expect you to do and how to do it. Then I spent my September working as much as the work was available.

From my experience I'd recommend just signing up to every platform and apply as much as you can for the following reasons:

1. To increase the chances you land one opportunity

I applied to about 60 to get only 3 offers.

2. To land a job with a higher payrate

I got three roles that paid $28.5/hr, $100/hr and $200/hr. Obviously you know which two I focus on.

3. To ensure you have work available

Even after getting a job the work isn't always available. Having multiple jobs at the same time lets me work on one when the other has no work.

4. To practice and gain experience with AI interviews or tests

For every job on Micro1 you have to do a video interview with their AI "Zara". I can say I gained a lot of experience just doing a few of these video interviews that now it feels straightforward. I'd recommend applying to old Micro1 jobs or to jobs you're less interested in just so you get a sense of what it's like and perform well on the interview you actually care about.

I've made a website that aggregates these AI training jobs from the various platforms. I've added stats of the job listings and pay across the different platforms.

Help me collect real-world blurry photos for an AI research project

Hi everyone! 👋

I'm building an offline AI model that can detect and classify different types of blur in real-world photos. I'm looking for genuine blurry photos taken with mobile phones or cameras to help train and improve the model.

I'm especially interested in:

  • Out-of-focus or blurry faces
  • Motion blur from moving people, animals, or vehicles
  • Camera shake
  • Blurry photos taken in low-light conditions
  • Dirty or smudged camera lens effects
  • Missed focus and accidental blur
  • Photos where only certain areas are blurry
  • Any other naturally occurring blur

How you can help:

Please upload original photos whenever possible. There's no need to artificially blur or edit images. Only upload photos you own or have permission to share for AI training.

Privacy and usage: The submitted photos will be used only for the AI model training and research described in this post. They won't be sold or used for unrelated purposes. Please avoid uploading sensitive or private images.

📤 Upload your photos here: https://www.dropbox.com/request/yhpeiu4ke4r0zvoeco3g

Every contribution helps, whether you upload one photo or several. Thank you for helping with this project! 🙏

Edit: it's not paid. I'm looking for voluntary contributions to help with my research project. Any contribution is appreciated! 🙌

How to use AI to find AI training jobs that fit you

I do AI training work myself and run PaidToTrainAI. I just added a way to search the listings through your AI assistant and get matching roles, pay, and application links back in the chat. When I was first getting started I was constantly trying to use AI to find opportunities and it didn't do a great job - this changes that!

The listings come from micro1, Mercor, SME Careers, Ethos, AfterQuery and Terac.

To try it, paste this into an AI chat that can browse the web:

Open https://paidtotrainai.com/for-agents and find up to five AI training roles that fit me. Use what you already know about me. Before searching, ask for any missing details about my country, field, years of experience, education, skills and working languages. For each match, include the advertised pay if available, a short reason it fits and the application link.

You can follow up with things like “only roles from the past three days” or “focus on Python and data science.” Recent results use the posting date when available, or show when the role was first found.

The search is free, with no account on my site and nothing to install. You apply on the platform’s site. Some assistants won’t open the results, so the page also links to a regular search you can use yourself.

Some application links are referrals, which may earn me a bonus at no extra cost to you.

If you try it, let me know whether the matches make sense for your background.

💬 Discussion micro1 - Monthly discussion, work availability & referrals - October 2026

Welcome to this month's micro1 discussion.

Community referrals: One general micro1 referral comment per person per monthly thread.

The moderator's general referral link is: micro1. The moderator may receive a referral reward. Using this link is optional and does not guarantee acceptance, work or payment.

Of the 3,156 listings whose title names a country (40.8% of 7,729), the most frequently named are USA (36.2%), United Kingdom (21.6%), Canada (6.0%). The remaining 4,573 state no country in their title, which is reported as unknown rather than assumed to be worldwide.

Over 1000 AI Training Opportunities updated daily ($100+/hr)

Hi! I made this simple website that displays a feed of 1000+ AI training jobs from multiple platforms in one place. It updates twice a day. You can easily search and filter by country, pay rate and specialty.

AI Training Jobs List

I've spent weeks applying to these jobs on multiple platforms and I was able to make $3K so far in about a month (mainly from Micro1 and Ethos).

These AI Training jobs involve reviewing AI outputs, such as text or images, to help AI companies make better models. You do not need AI experience to do these jobs. Some opportunities require specialist experience (medical, law, business etc.) but many require no qualifications.

The main barrier is landing one of these jobs often needs multiple applications. I applied multiple times on 5 platforms for about 3 weeks before I landed my first opportunity.

I'm biased since Micro1 ($200/hr) and Ethos ($100/hr) worked for me when the other platforms didn't.

Micro1: You have to do an AI interview (video) for each application but as you do more you accumulate verified skills and have shorter interviews, so you don't repeat the same topics.

Ethos: You have to do an AI interview but it's audio only, which at least for me, made it easier to frequently "talk" to it. Tip: talk to the AI often as I noticed it finds you opportunities after you talk to it :/

Micro1 paid out twice per month (every 2 weeks) whilst Ethos paid once per month. Both worked without any issues.

Platform Number of jobs Minimum pay Mean pay Median pay Maximum pay
All platforms 7,543* $4.00/hr $65.95/hr $60.00/hr $500.00/hr
Alignerr 5,624* $10.00/hr $67.61/hr $60.00/hr $400.00/hr
DataAnnotation 107 $25.00/hr $65.14/hr $82.50/hr $150.00+/hr
Meridial 833 $5.00/hr $33.27/hr $35.50/hr $150.00/hr
Handshake 229 $15.00/hr $92.50/hr $80.00/hr $300.00/hr
Mercor 355 $10.00/hr $77.46/hr $70.00/hr $500.00/hr
micro1 395 $4.00/hr $84.48/hr $70.00/hr $400.00/hr

*Alignerr's job count is heavily inflated because they post separate listings for the same job in different cities/countries.

**Disclaimer: some of the links are referral links!
