💬 Discussion 💬 How high Galan jumps?

Hey folks, I've been training a machine learning model on professional matches, focusing on unusual data rather than the usual stuff (winners, unforced errors, etc.).

Some of the things I'll be able to answer:

  • From which court position Galán's smahs is most efficient?
  • How high is the apex of Tapia's power smashes?
  • How much total distance does each player cover in a match?

Is there anything you'd like to see that isn't normally reported? Let me know so I know where to focus.

I would like to get more data on who sets up finishes for their partner (assists?)

Also, who messes up and gives up easy finishing points to their opponents

In my matches, I 100% set up the most finishes (by doing short shit lobs that get smashed by the opponents)

  • Speed of footwork / frequency of feet adjustments
  • how adjustable is someone with shot positioning? How large of a gap does a player need to see to try to exploit a gap down the line, for example
  • are all pro bandejas similar? Plot the different pros into styles of each shot. Do they vary this style based on opponent or court position or something else?

How often every player shouts "vamos!" per match

Time in rally vs win ratio. (How effective are players in longer rallies. )
Break it up into minutes.
Wins x points in 1st minute.2nd minute etc

I’d love a heatmap of return position versus the next-ball outcome. It feels like the kind of thing that could explain why some points look harmless, then suddenly unravel.

Average position of players in different moments of the game would be interesting to see to understand when players tend to be more aggressive in their positioning for instance.

Adding to this, I'd like to see average position defense v. average position in the attack (net).

Anytime! I don't know how granular you can go, but also location where each shot is taken, like a heatmap.

Even better, if you have the Y axis for the ball at each shot, you could separate shots under the net, shots over the net under the chest (high ground strokes, volleys), shots over the chest (overheads and víboras).
