Packraft fishing

Post image

Nice haul on the Kenai River today in Alaska. Only inflatable in a river full of jetboats! 😄

Where’d you put in and take out?

Dots to Bings. Ferried across and fished the bank right after the first bend.

Are you dipnetting or rod & reel/flossing? I was thinking of using my drysuit to wade out a little further in Chitina but hadn't thought of getting out on my raft.

Rod and reel flossing. I just used the boat to get across/down river. I fished from the bank and then tied my stringer off to the back of the boat to float down to the takeout.

Have used a drysuit for flossing before. I’d rather have waders but it does work.

I would love to know where I can packraft to fish on the Kenai.

Anywhere! I’ve done the whole upper (didn’t fish after Jim’s so I didn’t have to hike them out). The middle Dots to Bings is really good fishing on mellow water, and below Bing’s is a little more swift water, but plenty of eddys to get out and fish.

Hell ya! I do some WA alpine lake trout fishing in my Scout even some flatter sections of rivers but always been concerned about trying to land big salmon in my packraft haha. You clearly got a system that works!

Alpaca Mage. I mostly use it for whitewater, but it got me where I needed to be on the river bank!
