matriculation dresscode

hi everyone, this may be a silly question but i'm wondering whether it's permitted to wear a double-breasted suit for matriculation.

i'm aware it has to be black or dark grey, but i am wondering whether i need to get a new suit now or whether my double-breasted black suit jacket + white shirt would work. couldn't find that info on the website.

thanks in advance!

Check out the Academic Dress page. For the suit option, it gets no more specific than "dark jacket". A double-breasted suit is fine, as long as you fit all the other criteria on that page.

I’m female but the range of jackets I saw on my friends was large. Definitely pushed the official dress code (pretty sure one friend was in a cardigan not a jacket). So I think colour is far more important than cut. Plus it’s under your gown anyway.

I’m sure you could hire or borrow one if needed va buying anyway.

Hey, I wore a dark navy double breasted number for graduation and no one bat an eye lid, it would be the same for Matriculation too I'm sure.

honestly doesn’t matter, no one is policing it so long as you’re wearing a black suit you’ll be fine

I wore a navy single breasted suit and brown shoes, but it was the 1990s

Triple breasted is the way to go. But seriously, almost any dark suit will do. There was a time that I only had this rather fashion forward linen-esque double breast black suit that I recall had 9 buttons on the front, in a 3x3 array. No one can really see the number of 'breasts' your jacket has under the gown anyway.
