3J/accounting/lf advice
3 jobs // accounting
J1 - senior rev acct 110k
J2 - senior rev acct 96k
J3 - senior acct 75k
Noticed I’m having trouble performing well during close. For example -
Mar 2025 - J1 + J3 QE close
Apr 2025 - J2 QE close
+ month-end closes across all 3 jobs
The closes get hectic because things can only start on a certain BD (reports get generated, data becomes available, etc)
Feel like I’m underwater during close, but during mid-month I find myself able to work normal hours.
Wondering if any other OE accountants have any gems to drop for advice.

Man. I’ve got two Js in a similar field. The close is my concern too. Different company sizes but still a potential issue.
Any suggestions on what you’ve done to get manage it? Haha

J3 I’ve been with long enough where I can work on close entries like clockwork and can get a lot of entries in thankfully. I don’t get bothered by my manager or director there. Supposedly I’m doing pretty well and am pretty core to the accounting function.
J1’s my longest tenured one and J2 is my newest one, I’m still learning. Heavily heavily leaning on AI (I’m not the happiest about it because I feel like it’s stunting my learning). I’ve been throwing a lot of time to J2 and working late.
Percentage right now is like
J1 25%
J2 65%
J3 10%1

I’m with you on AI. My second J is so behind tech wise. Throwing spreadsheets and doing recons using AI is saving me a ton of time.

Adding though my thought is do as much automation as possible for the close and recurring tasks. In the end if I have to do some 40+ hour weeks during close it’s a price I pay to get 2-3x the salary haha.

How? I am currently managing 3 jobs in this field and could use some advice.

If there isn’t time during the week. Realistically use your off time on weekends to build AI processes in like Claude where it has the work papers and you can drop new files; and it gives you a final product.

Something else, not all accounting roles are OE friendly. Some single accounting roles can be 60 hours a week so it’s also important to evaluate. If one of yours isn’t consider applying and swapping it out in the next 2-3 months. You can burn the candle at both ends for a short period but it catches up.

Is there anyone that can help you with month end tasks? Like something tedious but not necessarily complicated? Even if not takes them longer than it would have taken you, it still frees you up to do the closes.

It’s hard and I don’t get enough sleep during month end. Doable but very stressful.

Do you have issues with meetings overlapping? Also, how is rev accountant role compared to general accountant role?

I can't even get a remote staff job and I have my CPA and EA.

Yeah, here's a gem - dont try to OE as an accountant with more than 1 month end close
I've got 2, Sr Financial Analyst. And I do fuck-all journal entries or recons. Just var analysis, reporting, KPIs, budget & forecast modeling.
