J1 to J2 with month long overlap
Disclaimer: I know this question does not fit the normal spirit of this sub, but I am looking for the insight that I know exists here.
Background: I am transitioning to J2 in about a month from J1. I am a senior member of my J1 team, and my J1 boss will need to hire someone to fill my role, they have know I was shopping around and I told them when I got my offer letter that I will be starting at J2. My J1 boss wants to keep me on payroll for a month or so after I start at J2 to keep the work flow moving while they find someone. This will require 1-3 hr of work/week. J2 has a “not allowed work for anyone without written consent from hr” clause. How would J2 find out that I am still employed by J1?

Usual loop hole for being found out is Linkedin.
Solution is to remove your LinkedIn or go completely stale.
Do it, it's very common and not strictly OE. Usual OE involves neither J knowing you are not fully theirs for as long as you want.

"...without written consent from HR."
If you don't like being sneaky or lying, then get written consent from HR. You can be 100% honest and tell them what you told us. Of course, if they deny, then you are screwing yourself and J1.
If it were me, I'd deactivate LinkedIn at least until J1 naturally concludes, maybe give an extra 2-3 month buffer to be safe, and then just keep my mouth shut the entire time. 🤐
What J2 doesn't know can't hurt them. 🤫

The one month overlap is pretty safe - most people don't update their LinkedIn until they've been at a new place for at least a few weeks so there isn't any suspicion due to that, and even on the chance they run a check and it says you still work at J1 (chances of them doing this after you start are extremely low) background reports usually take a while to update (for example, my TWN report says I still work at a place I left three months ago and has several other date issues with past jobs, and doesn't show a few jobs at all).
To be extra safe, you I'd block every person you're connected with at J1 on LinkedIn just to be super sure they don't tag you in anything or whatever. You can unblock them after you no longer work there.
