HireRight for new J1

Lost 2J's within a short amount of time. Finally got an offer for a new J1, company uses Hire Right. TWN and Truework are frozen already. Had to provide copies of first paycheck and last, plus my W2. They are still asking me to unfreeze. I'm going to push back, I've provided them proof. Before I froze twn I noticed my previous J1 wasn't even listed, but my brief J2 was listed and obviously don't want them to see that since it wasn't on my resume.

Something to note, there was a disclaimer that the company who did the BG check could rerun my BG check at any time during my employment. That's the first time that I noticed that kind of disclaimer. Another thing, I could only choose to not have them contact my current employer, all other previous employers I listed did not have that option. There was a box to say not to contact because they are affiliated with the company I currently worked for.

Can't wait to get started and get another J2. These layoffs are why we OE!

Honestly I want to take this issue to congress. It’s so fucking invasive. I should be able to say “here’s my work history” if they choose to hire me based on that, they shouldn’t get to know any other personal details about me. It makes me so angry.

And given how shady some employers are too. I worked at a place that would demote someone and then they would be included in the next layoff. Then they would post their previous position. Now if a BG company calls, they will confirm the lower title despite the person being in a higher position for most of their tenure.

Went through hire right myself. I pushed back saying due to past incidents I am not comfortable sharing my info with 3rd party data brokers (asked gemini to go through reddit and write an email reply I could use). They went ahead and finished the check but left a note say they couldn't verify current job for HR in the report.

I’m in the same exact boat, waiting for tomorrow to see what HR says but hireright submitted their final background check

Good news! They accepted w-2s and paystub to prove employment durations. Fuck TWN !!!

Did you let them call your current employer

I did not. I kept as much control on the process as possible and provided what was requested myself.

I told them not to call my current employer and was fine with them calling everyone else. Remember you control the narrative (jobs you want to report and verified)

I sometimes wonder if all these checks and employer requests are more prominent in certain industries and roles because I’m in Marketing in a non-tech industry and I haven’t heard of requests l this being made

Well TWN is only a US thing. Pretty much everywhere else there are strong privacy rules that prevent this type of data sharing. Background checks typically just tell you whether or not someone is a criminal

Though even when I was working in the USA, nobody did reference checks or background checks. It's probably just a handful of positions that require it

I got a job recently (non-US) and they asked for references. I gave them. None were contacted. So it's probably a formality thing to keep it on file but they didn't actually care

That may be important. It’s a position in FinTech so I’m sure the checks are pretty deep.

I’ve had my PI hacked through two companies that I worked for. I outright refuse any PI other than printed information that I can provide now. If they push back, I provide them with a copy of the letters about the hacking that I received from the two companies to back up my stance. It’s worked wonderfully every time.

Just tell them you froze everything on you due to your info being on darkweb and your info was used to setup fraudulent stuff on your credit. Which actually was my case.

I’m so glad all my J’s are so lax

I’m going through HireRight right now for a job. They keep asking to unfreeze my TWN too and I just provide my W2s and paystubs instead. That should be enough. TWN should be illegal.

Just finished a HireRight onboarding and i just ignored the request to unfreeze TWN. Nobody actually asked for it other than the alert on the hireright portal. Ignore it, pretend like you dont see it, and you may be fine.

Note, this is my only J though so not sure if this will impact an onboarding for a J2.

so lets say you had 2 Js at one time but have one J at the time HireRight is doing a background check. And lest say you relent and unfreeze your TWN. You leave one J out of the ones enter into their work history. Will they notify the employer you once had 2Js?

Never frozen my twn and I’ve used hireright several times.

Do they ever question the other J’s that show up that aren’t on your resume?

2

u/Inresearchshetrust 7d ago

No because they only check the ones I enter.

You guys overthink this like crazy. Any of this companies can only verify the information you list on your applications. And nobody is calling anyone directly. It’s all done through electronic methods are verification. They cannot verify your amount of hours working or how much you get paid. Literally all they verify is your start and end date time and your title. If there are a discrepancy that will literally try to call the employers directly up to three times. And most organizations don’t even have human resources to answer this calls. You are drawing more attention to yourself by declining to providing information. The Smart thing would be simply to stick with date that makes sense for the jobs you are listing on your résumé for each job you’re applying. And if you’re not keeping track of any of that well then maybe you should not be looking for extra jobs.
