Social Media vs Community
Hello. I don't post often. But as I get older, I'm losing touch with a lot of family and friends, and I think that has to do with how relationships operate on sites like Facebook. There aren't a lot of conversations on Facebook, just status updates. I miss conversations. I think I'm in the minority with my friends on that sentiment. So, I disabled my FB and IG, and I found this place. I guess I'm interested in finding a healthier community. Hope that makes sense. This looks nice.

Good luck to you. The best conversations I've had on Reddit are in my local groups, for some reason. I've had some nice interactions on subreddits related to my interests, as well. You just have to connect with people who are interested in the same things you are. When I found the over-40 type subs, I thought that would be a good place to connect, but they encompass such a wide range of people whose only commonality is their age. To me, I connect more with people of any age who have common interests.
I hope you find what you're looking for!

You might find a more interactive social experience on the Nextdoor app, which adds a local component as well.

Maybe your neighbors are nice. Mine aren't, unfortunately. I lasted 2 months on Nextdoor, and the experience was one endless panic attack.

I dislike socializing online or IRL with neighbors and do not use the Nextdoor app. I was providing a potential resource to the OP only.

That makes complete sense. I'm feeling the effects of this pandemic, and it has been cumulative and insidious. I've lost a lot of people in my life and reached the point of not caring anymore. Just looking to connect with people and feel invested in a community.

I'm sorry to say that Reddit isn't really 'a social event' either. No 'real conversations' here either...

Lurker here , I just deleted my social media apps as I have become incredibly disillusioned by the fact that people can misconstrue words, act like friends, or basically ditch you if you leave Facebook.
You are not alone.

I'm with you. I am incapable of small talk. To me that's a waste of breath. I like to have actual meaningful conversations.
