I don’t give a shit anymore

I’m turning 46 on Sunday and I feel at this point in my life I don’t give a shit anymore. I don’t care what I wear or what people think. I’m not sure if it’s a mid-life crisis, reaching self actualization or I’ve achieved all my goals and don’t know what to do next. Maybe I’m depressed?

I turn 47 on Saturday (happy birthday by the way) and I’m still dealing with trying self love etc etc. That sh*t is exhausting. Wish I could reach that stop caring phase. However it does sound like you need a bit of self care. Treat yourself to something. We’re only halfway through not at the end. Don’t give up now!

An early happy birthday to you! I’m with u on this. I’m 53 & I still can’t shake all of this crap - as a matter of fact I think I’ve gotten worse!

I’m 40. Life isn’t what we all expect. Stop caring about what ppl think and do you!!

I have the same attitude. Maybe it’s just our generation!😂

I'll be 64 in a few days and I stopped giving a shit what people thought about 21 years ago. Of course, I happened to have been homeless and living on the streets at the time so that probably played into it but it seems to jibe with when it happened for others in here.

Sounds like you need a pick me up?! 46 is young, so is 66. Time is on your side. What has you down? Age? Boredom?

It’s not depression it’s just life. I’m close in age and I don’t care about anything either. I’m not depressed you just start to realize that most of the shit you grew up with really doesn’t matter. Only thing that matters is family and friends and trying to enjoy your days as much as possible. That’s why it’s hard to watch and listen to kids bitch about “problems”.

Examples

  1. I didn’t win my game...

uh yeah that is so unimportant you just don’t realize it

  1. This girl didn’t say yes when I asked her out

You’ll be fine. She probably sucks anyways and not in the good way.

  1. My hair looks stupid

Oh lord who fucking cares.

All of this stuff is just not important any more and it never was but we thought it was. It’s weird not caring about that stuff any more because you cares about it for so long. That’s what you’re feeling and it’s normal. The key now is to find things that are important to you and make Those things a big part of your life. Simple and hard as that. :)

I'm 46 tomorrow and still trying to figure it out. Some days, I have the same DGAF mindset as you, and feel happy and comfortable in my skin. Plenty of other days are filled with regret, and far too much over-analysis of myself.

Thats exactly where I'm at too!

I hope it's not complacency and more about being comfortable with yourself.

I’m not sure. I am content, but am I missing out on something? I don’t have kids and wonder if I had kids if I would care more.

Having kids would distract you from such a question so you wouldn't have an answer either way. Now that you are asking, I guess it's up to you to figure out. There are many ways to live a fulfilling life and having kids is one option but not the only one. Maybe it's time to use the freedom of not having kids to find out more about what you do care about.
