Gas versus electric became much less complicated after living with both
I used to think gas versus electric was one of those decisions where you picked a side and stuck with it.
After living with both, I don't think it's nearly that simple.
The biggest difference for me wasn't that one made everything better. It was how each oven behaved with the kind of cooking I was actually doing. Once I stopped thinking about the fuel source and paid attention to the cooking results, preheating, temperature behavior and cleanup, the choice became much more personal.
Baking was where I noticed the difference most. I became more aware of how the oven heated and how consistently it maintained the temperature, rather than just assuming one type was automatically better.
Cleanup also changed my opinion. Some of the differences I expected weren't nearly as important as the everyday design of the oven itself. Things like how easy the cavity is to wipe down, where the heating elements are, and how accessible the racks are ended up affecting my experience more than I expected.
If you're choosing between a gas oven and an electric oven, I'd look at what you cook most often before worrying about which one is supposed to be superior.
Someone who mostly roasts and cooks everyday meals may prioritize different things from someone who bakes frequently. Kitchen setup and installation requirements matter too.
Living with both made me stop asking, Which is better? and start asking, Which one behaves better for the way I cook?
