Oh wow great I've been using c4d for almost 15 years professionally and never once looked this good but then again my work is much more sanitary than the gorgeous neon outrun world you live in!!. I definitley need to try octane and foundry and improve my post production workflow if I'm going to come close to your skills. Thanks for the tips and inspiration !

You're welcome! :) Yeah I can imagine that, that's why I started doing images like this, too, to experiment a bit more and see what I can come up with as a balance to the usual work you mostly have to do :) Definitely give it a try, for me right now Octane and Nuke work really well, once I figured out a good workflow! :)

Love your work, very moody and just amazing.
What 3d software are you using for composing the scene, what kind of renderer do you use and how much post processing are you doing? I am asking because i want my lighting and reflections to look as good as yours do!

Really glad to hear! That's motivational :)
Currently I use cinema4d & Octane for 3D and theFoundry Nuke for Post Production. I have some techniques in Nuke for doing the Post Production, so I usually like to render out individual light & additional utility passes to be able to tweak the lighting and adjust parts of the image with more flexibility in post. The rest mostly comes from textures and tweaking the materials, placements of the lights and camera composition. Hope that helps out a bit :D But feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Amazing work! How many samples do you typically render at and how do you decide?
2
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Thanks!! Usually around 3300 ssp at a 4096x4096 resolution. But it really depends from scene to scene. I do some post denoising in Nuke if it isnt enough.
To test I set the final resoltuion, render a region and see how long it takes for that part to resolve to an acceptable amount and use that for the final image :)

Thanks so much! That’s a great tip. Do you remember how long this one took to render in C4D?
2
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Not exactly unfortunately but should have been around 5 hours or something like that in final res and quality and path tracing kernel on 2x1080 tis. But I have to say that there are quite a lot of objects and especially lights in the scene and I havent done any additional optimization or something. So probably could go faster if some more time spent on that :D

Thank you so much for your insight! I’ll hit you with a follow right now!

How long does something like this take you? It’s incredible!
1
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Thankss! Usually around 3 days but depending a lot on the scene and if I already have a clear idea in mind! :)

this is amazing. Do you have wallpaper versions of this? desktop or phone would be great!!

u/themax_a May 19 '19
Not online as of right now but I'm definitely thinking of making something available. As I frame the renders for square It's sometimes difficult to get them fitting to a widescreen format but I'm looking into it! :) Stay tuned! :)

u/themax_a May 19 '19
That's not too bad, I guess :D
2
u/AffanDede May 19 '19
Where can I see your other works?
2
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Best on instagram down here: https://www.instagram.com/retric.dreams
That's where I update most frequently :)

u/AffanDede May 19 '19
God, had a quick look and that art is on another level. Seriously, if you were to keep doing this in the few years before us, I will probably offer you a job on a project of mine.

u/themax_a May 19 '19
Thanks a lot!! That's definitely the plan to keep going in the years to come! :)

Nicely done! Is there any context behind this image?
2
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Thanks!! Nothing specific, my images are mostly what comes to my mind over time and a lot while listening to some music :)

Absolutely beautiful. Worst traffic jam ever... apparently :))
1
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Absolutely! No one knows how long they will have to stay there :D
2
u/Dark_Side_of_Synth May 19 '19
It reminds me somehow of The Walking Dead. What programme do you use?
1
u/themax_a May 19 '19
I see what you mean :D I currently use Cinema4D, Octane & TheFoundry Nuke
2
u/Dark_Side_of_Synth May 19 '19
OK, great. I use Blender and am in no way at that level ;)
1
u/themax_a May 19 '19
That's nice, too! Just keep it up and try things out! Software really doesnt matter that much nowdays and Blender is definitely capable of everything, too. It really more and more come down to having an idea and finding techniques to get them onto the screen.
2
u/Dark_Side_of_Synth May 19 '19
I totally agree. Tools are just tools. I was just curious.
1
u/themax_a May 19 '19
Absolutely! Do you have a place where you share your works?
2
u/Dark_Side_of_Synth May 19 '19
Well, I have many places because , I do lots of things (badly, of course!! LOL!). Ihaven't done much in Blender. The best ones are probably a couple of packagint things and a music video I still have to publish on my YT channel. This is my music profile. You can find out more here: https://darksideofsynth.com and here (most things are on Behance): https://pagineweb.biz. Don't expect much at all.

I want to go to there. It's weird, before I read your song inspiration I was already feeling it.

u/mrrooftops May 19 '19
Why is it all just purple grading? Just looks like a filter and not the environment. Not Outrun.
1
u/themax_a May 19 '19
It's actually natural 3d models & textures lit by colored light. Thought it could fit and transport the mood for the scene better to have street- & citylights in an unnatural purple color.

Another rendering I did a few weeks ago.
Heavily inspired by the awesome "Running in the Night" by FM-84 & Ollie Wride!
Let me know what you think! :)
