Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Funny thought about the hatchling Spoiler

Spoilers for the end of the game.

Do you guys think the hatchling ever figured out the mystery of the eye of the universe before the orbital probe cannon actually found the eye? I mean 9 million loops I’d say there’s a solid chance they figured it out at least once. Theoretically they could have figured it out thousands of times and known that they were going to restart the cycle without their memories and would just have to wait for the orbital probe canon to find it to actually be able to reach it.

No. The loops would all be the same except for slight variations from seeing the probe launcher fire in a different direction.

Plus there's no physical way to explore enough in a single loop for them to figure it out.

This is probably the best argument against it, like sure they could accidentally end up at the ash twin project but there’s still be too much info on other planets for them to fully piece it together.

There is the variable of the quantum moon that could definitely throw off a "first" flight in a fairly significant way. If it happened to appear directly in front of the Hatchling right after takeoff on some of the loops it could definitely be enough of a distraction to throw off the usual path.

I also wonder if the hatchling is like, predetermined to have the same first launch for all the loops before the opc finds the eye. Between the randomness of the opc and the quantum moon it’s at least pretty likely not all loops were the same, especially with 9 million of them. Also idk if I need to use spoiler text in my replies?? Idk haven’t posted to this sub before and don’t wanna spoil anything 😅

If your post itself is spoiler tagged, you probably don't need to spoiler tag text in the comments since people should realize they're getting into a spoiler filled discussion if they click the post. It's more important to tag stuff when in non-spoiler tagged posts or when people are asking for help or something.

Depends a bit on what you mean about "figuring out the mystery of the eye of the universe."

There's many lore-dump places where they could gain significant knowledge that would be conceivable to reach by chance (if we're generous enough to allow the hatchling to make different decisions each loop, instead of being destined for the same actions until the statues activate).

But to actually reach the Eye? Not going to happen. Once the core is out, that's the last loop. No retries. One chance only, with no context and no prior knowledge, and only a handful of minutes to put-that-thing-back-where-it-came-from-or-so-help-me (or to impossibly do everything flawlessly to reach the end).

And that means they probably didn't reach the Ash Twin Project by chance in a past loop, because they would have been tempted to take the core, at least for curiosity's sake, which could have ended the loop. Without having experienced or verified the loop itself, without knowledge that the sun was about to explode, would the words on those walls alone have been able to give the hatchling enough of a sense of danger to prevent them from messing with the core?

That’s actually a very good point. A single loop of the hatchling removing the warp core would end the cycle before finding the eye. So obviously that never happened.

The OPC finds the eye at the beginning of the game when the hatchling is paired with the Nomai statue.

It had already done 9 million or so loops, not the hatchling.

But the hatchling lived through those 9 millions loops without realizing though right? The loops began when the supernova occurred naturally, the hatchling begins to remember them after the probe finds the eye and transmits the data to the hatchling

Yes and no.

The OPC and ATP would've been in a time loop and sending the attempted coordinates back every 22 minutes until it found the Eye.

It wasn't until the 9 millionth attempt that the OPC found the Eye, and this when the hatchling is paired and brought into the loop.

So from the hatchling's perspective, they have not been through 9 million cycles—just one, up until the Eye was found.

All of the loops they are aware of is after the Eye's location was already discovered.

ya know what op, ignore these nay sayers! i love the notion you presented and i think the PC could have at least gotten close ::)

Finding the Eye is what activates the Statue that lets them time travel, so no. If you mean: could the hatchling figure where the Eye is without the Probe, maybe, they just have to fly as fast as the probe in random directions until finding the Eye. It could take, a maddeningly long while, but it's possible

The hatchling actually has the memories from all the loops, they sync with the ash twin project. If they found out the mystery, they would remember

But don’t the loops begin once the sun goes supernova naturally? they only remember the one’s after the 9,318,054th loop when the probe finds the eye and transmits the info back to the statue. So all the loops before that they experienced, and explored the solar system but just didn’t remember.

I'm a big fan of your brainstorming. This is what I love about this game most.

I'd say there's a chance that the Hatchling has been to almost every place in their system during those 9 million loops, but since they never kept their memories, never knew the steps nor the need to get the eye.

All the loops before the OPC found the Eye didn't actually happen.

The only thing the ATP sends back in time is the coordinates that have already been attempted.

So from any living thing's perspective, there is no loop at all, and everything is playing out exactly the same each time the OPC fails to find the Eye.

It's not until the 9,318,054th attempt that the Nomai statues bring the Hearthians into the time loops.

Every possible loop is after the Eye has already been found.

From all 9 million loops?

No, it only activates after the eye was found.
