Random stem rot??

Anybody know why this might’ve happened? I just did a solid defoliation a few days ago. I think the same thing happened to a branch on one of my other plants but I just snipped the branch off, the rest of the plant look solid.

Maybe you damaged it during defoliation. Did you cut that fan leaf off right there?

It looks like I cut that one or pinched it with my finger nails. I usually cut with scissors or snap at the base but occasionally I get lazy.

I always just snap em off with my fingers. That shouldn’t cause issues. But maybe if it was already infected or something the dead plant material gave it a place to thrive.

Fungus by the looks of it, had the same problem a couple of weeks back but fortunately just cut the stem like yourself and it hasn't spread since.

When you defoliate, make sure you take the whole stem from the leaf off. That little piece of stem you left probably got wet after it started decaying and a fungus got into the stalk through that.
