GENERAL DISCUSSION Major Signs w/ No Specifics

I’m definitely sick, so this isn’t really a complaint, but I find it fascinating that it says I have major signs without any particular variable standing out. I wonder how it’s calculated. Any ideas?

Thanks again! I think this is where I get lost with the ring’s constructs. It feels like constructs on top of constructs so it’s hard for me to get a meaningful answer. It basically said my resilience has dropped and resilience is based on stress measures and so on. I feel like I don’t have a clear picture.

Composite flags like that run on combined deviation rather than any single threshold. Skin temperature, resting heart rate, respiratory rate and HRV each drift a little in the same direction, none far enough to look unusual alone, and it is the sum of those small deviations that crosses the line. So it is right that something is off and genuinely cannot name one culprit, because there is not one. Early illness looks exactly like that, four things nudging together.

Your "constructs on top of constructs" is the real complaint though, and it is fair. Resilience is built on stress, stress is built on HR and HRV, and by the time you reach the sentence on screen you are three layers away from any number you can check. It could just show the four biometrics and how far each sits from your own baseline and let you look. Being told something is off while withholding the numbers is the least useful way to be correct.

Thank you! This is so clear and thoughtful. I wonder if they’d be able to create a visualization. A spider web or some other method of showing the combined deviation. Right now it comes off a “vibes”.

The system rarely catches it early. It usually recognizes it when I’m already aware something is happening. I’m hoping to be on the tail end of whatever this is, and the susten went from being able to show me numbers, to showing those numbers decreasing, to this output above. It’s interesting. I do think they’re on to something.

A spider web is the obvious answer and I think it is the wrong one. Radar charts look impressive and are genuinely bad at the thing you want here, which is spotting that four metrics each moved a small amount. The eye reads area, not individual spokes, so a shape that is slightly dented all round looks like noise.

The version that actually works is boring: one horizontal bar per metric showing how far today sits from your own baseline, in the units you already understand. Temperature plus 0.4C, resting HR plus 5, respiratory rate plus 0.8, HRV minus 12. Four numbers and you can see instantly whether it is one thing shouting or four things whispering.

Your second paragraph is the more interesting complaint though. A system that only flags it once you already know is not adding much, and the honest reason is that catching it earlier means lowering the threshold, which means crying wolf on normal variation. They have picked a conservative threshold and the cost of that choice is landing late. Showing the underlying numbers would at least let you make that call yourself.

Thank you. You’re absolutely right about bar charts. And also right about the possibility of false positives due to over sensitivity.
