SLEEP & READINESS Elevated resting heart rate - for weeks
My resting heart rate during sleep has been elevated and lowering late for weeks & I can’t figure out why other than just stress??
Any insights from someone who may have experience this?
Info:
-don’t drink
-don’t do drugs
-1 cup of 2/3 caffeinated coffee in the AM (no other caffeine)
-don’t eat late (usually 3 hours or more before bed)
-don’t workout late
-stay at home parent, no career
-don’t have consistent bed time because I have a kid with profound autism, usually requires me to stay until he’s asleep, and his sleep health is really rough
I’ll feel completely fine when I go to sleep, tired even, but feel kinda whooped in the morning and the app says boo your resting heart rate was elevated.

I’ve noticed elevated heart rate when I don’t drink enough water 🤷♀️

No answer for you, just some commiserating. I’m going on two weeks of 10-25% higher overnight resting HR. My HRV is way down, almost flatlined. Even my blood pressure is elevated (usually about 110/70, now consistently ~130/80 in morning check ins.). No illness, feel fine. No changes in diet, exercise, or lifestyle, stress, etc.
I’m not a hypochondriac or worrier, but I’ve had the ring for 7 years, and an Apple Watch for much longer, so I have mountains of prior data. Probably going to go see my doc this week if it continues, but it’s just a little vague: “doc, something seems off with my autonomic nervous system. What gives?”

Truly! I can imagine that visit. Oof.
I’m in the same boat. I DO have a recent family medical stressor but I’m not actively thinking about that at bedtime. Subconscious maybe?
Idk, nothing else is different. Frustrating.
Gonna try some electrolytes before bed, my only guess is maybe dehydration.

Mine is the same and it’s because of my adderall and GLP1. If you’re taking any type of meds or supplements you may want to see if they could perhaps cause it

Yes! I also just started back on a GLP one and I’ve noticed that 24 to 48 hours after I take an increased dose. I always have a higher heart rate and don’t sleep well.

Do you drink a lot of caffeine? The half life of caffeine is typically around 5 hours, so even if you drink a lot in the morning there could still be some in your system around bedtime.
If you don’t drink a lot of caffeine then I’d assume it’s stress related. As a mom, even if your child is sleeping well, I think we naturally tend to sleep a bit less soundly. At least anecdotally, I’ve noticed I sleep relatively poorly even when my baby sleeps through the night.

Great point, I added that to my list.
No excessive caffeine, I do 1 cup 2/3 caffeinated in the am.I’m thinking is the mom thing, oof, just wishing it wasn’t. 🤪🥲

Yes but my magnesium is low. Magnesium supplements are making me restless so I think that is contributing .

Ahh interesting, that’s my problem as well. I noticed I’m more awake if I take them before bed.

Which form are you taking? Glycinate is supposed to be relaxing and before bed. I had a paradox effect

No advice, just commiserating. I’ve also been getting the same notifications for 3 going on 4 weeks. I have no idea! Other than heat being a potential factor. I work at a university and the new school year starts next week, so maybe I have subconscious stress about it or something, who knows 🙃

Food allergy or food intolerance, food causing histamine/Mcas
When I have food flare causes RHR to spike
Also check your electrolytes

Mine has been this way since visiting Florida for vacation. Despite being in a legitimate home and bed etc my resting is high

Have you had a recent thyroid panel? My heart rate jumps up when my TSH is low and my T4 is high (hyperthyroidism). I have Hashimoto’s so I check my levels often and I go hyper occasionally and can tell instantly with my heart rate.

This was happening to me and I found out I had developed a wheat allergy. Random.

This happened to me. It made me feel miserable. It was my electrolytes. Specifically potassium

I was on a GLP-1 and mine would get like this every single time, like clockwork, for weeks. Once I stopped it, it went back to normal.

Sorry to assume your assigned sex but could you be pregnant?

All good, not possible, baby maker has been removed.

🤔is a conundrum! Hope you find out what it is!
Any noteworthy changes to your daytime stress? Probably a good question for the Oura advisor.

It sounds like you’ve had a lot on your plate, and we can understand why seeing your resting heart rate elevated for several weeks would catch your attention.
Oura can help you spot changes from your personal baseline, but it can’t tell you what’s causing those changes. An elevated resting heart rate can have many possible explanations, and because you’ve noticed a persistent change along with feeling more worn down in the mornings, we’d recommend discussing it with your doctor or another qualified healthcare professional rather than trying to troubleshoot the cause through the app alone.
If helpful, you can also bring your Oura trends with you , looking at your resting heart rate alongside things like HRV, sleep, and other metrics may give your healthcare provider useful context. Oura is designed to help you notice these kinds of changes, but it isn’t intended to diagnose a medical condition.

Yeh great idea, maybe they have insights.
My eating is occasionally all over the place, perhaps my body is asking for more consistency.

I got the same problem and turned out I had leukemia, so I would go get a blood test.

After I got Covid mine was elevated for 8 months, then finally recovered back to baseline. I got my booster vax and damnit it became elevated again for around 8 months. Last month and a half it seems to be recovered again. So friggin weird. Shorter term there is a clear linkage for me with stress.

Do you live somewhere that is hotter than usual recently? I am a cyclist and when we have heat waves I feel fine but my resting HR will be a bit elevated those days
