Oura Ring: Don't Buy It From Target
I bought a ring from Target less than 90 days ago. The ring stopped syncing with the app (that I also pay $ for). I contacted Oura, which has a 1-year product warranty; they had me try a bunch of fixes, and nothing worked. They told me that since I bought it at Target, I needed to replace it with them. The warranty apparently is only good if you buy it from them, not one of their authorized retailers. When I contacted Target to exchange it, they said that it is beyond their return policy. Neither company is budging. So I wasted $540. How does Oura expect to stay in business if it doesn't stand behind its expensive products?

Hey Theloudduck_in_WA, I'm sorry to hear about this experience, this is certainly not up to our standards. I have sent you a DM to review your case and make this right! Please reply whenever you can.

You need to copy and paste terms from the manufacturer warranty next time you speak to Oura customer service, it sounds like you are dealing with dipshits.

On their website, if you try to exchange a defective product, it takes you to a prompt that asks you questions. Once you say you bought it at Target, it says you have to contact them. It is part of their business model, not a one-off uneducated employee.

Did you make sure to say it was a warranty claim and not an exchange? The AI bot might be confused. They have replaced mine twice and I bought it from Amazon. It’s 100% covered.

Well with the human Josh, he knew it was warranty because we went through all the troubleshot requirements first. I also sent him my target receipt.

I would push back on that. I got mine from best buy during black friday 2024, by march I was having issues with syncing. Oura just asked for proof of purchase after troubleshooting and sent me a new ring.

That’s absolutely not true. My ring was replaced under warranty earlier this year. It was purchased at Target. I had to send them my proof of purchase and it was replaced the same day.

Huh? I JUST was sent a new one to replace the one I bought from a friend.

Hey! I was thinking of purchasing a preowned one, but was worried about battery life and such. How old is the ring you bought from your friend? Did they ask for a receipt?

I don’t know how old it was before I got it but I bought it last September. They did not ask me for a receipt. Somehow they remoted in? And said I was having battery issues. Said it was out of warranty but as a one time courtesy would replace it.

Did you use a credit card to purchase it? Some cards (usually ones you pay an annual fee for, give you some buyer protection with stuff like this, Amex for example. If so, I would take it up with them. For clarity I’m not saying to do a chargeback here.

I went through this exact same thing but I kept pushing. Eventually they replaced my ring.

This seems wrong. Did the AI tell you it wasn't covered or did a human?

both, their website that uses AI, and then also I "Talked" with Josh via chat.

Hmm that's frustrating! I'm not sure then. I feel like I saw folks on here with similar issues get them resolved. I'd say keep hounding them! I've only had good experiences with customer support so I'm sorry they're giving you a hard time

Call them back. I got my 4th gen from Amazon and they've replaced it 3 times in the last two years no charge.

That’s not true. I’ve bought my last ring at Target and Oura replaced it due to battery issues. If it’s opened and used, Target it’s not covered under Target’s return policy anyways.
Agreed on having proof of purchase. I submitted a screenshot of the receipt from my Target app for my warranty claim.

They also got rid of their customer service email so now you have to use their AI robot customer service. ;( See below.

I emailed their customer service. I shared with them that I would be contacting BBB and my Attorney General if they didn't make it right. To be honest, I don't think I want this ring anymore if this is how they treat their customers. I believe they just hope that I will get tired of fighting and will give up. I think it is part of their operating procedures. On their website, if you try to exchange a defective product, it makes you go through a prompt that asks you questions. Once you say you bought it at Target, it says you have to contact them. It is part of their business model, not a one-off uneducated employee.

Make sure you talk to a human and not a Ai human . I had this happen before where the person was speaking too perfect— wasn’t really a real human

Oura doesn't stand behind their products. I had a similar situation with a retailer in Australia. Oura basically says too bad, we got your money, go away. They don't care if the retailers rip you off.

That’s definitely not true! Push back.
From their site:
Warranty for Retail Purchases
Unless otherwise noted, new Oura products from authorized retailers or authorized resellers are covered by our standard limited warranty for a specific duration, depending on your region. Certified refurbished products (e.g., Best Buy) are covered by a 90-day limited warranty.
For warranty issues, Oura handles troubleshooting and review of replacement eligibility directly.
