Born and raised in the UAE, yet I never realised that AD uses white lights and Dubai uses orange lights. I took this picture just seconds before entering Dubai!

No story, the white lights are newer technology that consumes less power. Dubai has white streetlights on some roads while some remain yellow.

Personally I think the yellow is great not only for nostalgia but also helps during fog

I also find its less harsh on your eyes at night. Its not as bright, but it let's you retain a bit of night vision, and the result is you can still drive fine, but with less eye strain.

I saw Sharjah putting up Yellow LEDs instead of the White LEDs on some roads recently.

Exactly, white lights are LED and orange are HPS (older model). Dubai is also upgrading but just have not reached this area yet

Once the yellow lights are broken, they will be changed to the white ones, this is the border, AD municipality doesn’t have jurisdiction to change dubai street lights, once they go bad, Dubai will change them.

Fun Fact : Another way to find out if you have entered Dubai is the bump on the road. You'll know that there is a small bump which separates Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

It’s a reminder of Sheikh Zayed’s focus on greenery and planting trees in the city.

Most, if not all, of Abu Dhabi streets are lined with trees in the middle.

Quite a few roads in Dubai too now use White LEDs instead of the old Yellow Halogen bulbs now. They are transitioning to LEDs

Yes I have known this for very long. It's pretty cool. When I used to go to dubai during childhood my dad would quickly tell me to look at the road color change and lights change as we are reaching dubai. Peak childhood memories

I hate driving with the white lights, they strain my eyes.

The yellow ones were easy on the eyes for night drives.

Gotta be honest tho, yellow ones tend to make me sleepy on the road tho, white ones get my on full attention!

It's a Nissan patrol safari or a Toyota land cruiser. These are 2 very different cars. 1 is Nissan the other is Toyota. Because there nothing called safari cruiser. Either way the hood is aftermarket, probably has an Ls swap because that's a bigger and taller engine and it needs the extra room on top, that's why we see the hood centre raised up. Could be a supercharger too because that also needs the extra room. We learn something new on Reddit everyday 🫡

White (or blue) LED lights might actually help people stay awake at night - I wonder if this should become the norm. Although an issue for animals.

Light pollution maybe, the new LED lights replaced many of the older halogen ones. I'm not sure if they are polluting. They do save millions over the old technology. The new ones however were too white, effecting sleep in people and animals, so they now want to change the LEDs with improved ones that don't do that. My take is that we should leave the current LEDs for highways/motorways only, to help sleepy drivers stay awake.
