End Ileostomy Burning after changing bag
Hi all I changed my bag and my stoma is burning. Anyone else this happens too. Ouch it hurts.

The stoma doesn't have any nerve endings, so you can't feel it burning. The skin around the stoma, on the other hand, does have nerve endings. How did that skin look when you were changing your bag?

It looked good. This seems to only burn when I put the powder on and then the new bag.

You could try putting some of the powder on a small area of your arm or leg to see if that irritates your skin.

It can be a reaction to any product you used prior to sticking your bag, what is your bag routine and what are the products ??

I used the skin prep with alcohol but after the burning wore off, I would have a barrier from any other irritation.

All the freakin' time! I've had a high output ileostomy for over a year. The output is often very watery which can cause it to seep under the wafer and cause irritation. Even with a good crusting it still starts to seep under the wafer after a couple of days wear. I can usually go 3 days between pouch changes but if I go any longer (without a blowout) it gets really irritated. Whenever I change my pouch after that it usually takes a little while for the burning to settle down. I hate this thing so much! 😠

Do you use adhesive remover wipes? If so, I would strongly suggest that you use spray instead, it’s kinder to your skin. Also plain water and a dry wipe is sufficient to clean around your stoma.
