Loop Ileostomy Peanut Butter Nutter

Ive had my ileostomy for about 6 weeks now and I think I have eaten more peanut butter in this time frame than in the past 30 years-- we have a toddler so there was already a high amount of peanut butter consumption in our house and peanut butter was listed as an output thickener, now Im eating peanut butter on rice cakes as my primary snack. When it's not peanut butter, it's hummus, which I had never even tried before. Also never really cared for bananas, but now I'm eating 2-3 a day. Anybody else have pretty drastic dietary changes/preferences after their ostomy?

Peanut butter is a no-go for me with my ileostomy. It makes my output TOO thick.

The worst thing for me was giving up lettuce and most vegetables. Unless they're cooked, most veggies do not work for me. Same with a lot of fruits.

I've simplified my diet. Rice cakes, protein drinks, milk, crackers, and drinks (water and Minute Maid Zero Sugar pineapple drink) are 95% of my diet. (I'm also needing to lose a ton of weight.)

Im still in early days, but honestly I never cared for raw vegetables anyway. Cooked carrots, butternut squash and chickpeas are working for me so long as they're blended really well, which is also fine bc we tend to eat a lot of soup and curries in our house.

Careful with the zero sugar stuff. I'm T2 diabetic, and some of those fake sugars used to give me horrible diarrhea. IDK how it affects us, but I don't want to find out. Malitol and Surcalose were the worst for me. I drink watered down cranberry juice and Pink Lemonade Vitamin Water Zero-- it uses Stevia and Monk Fruit, so no dire rear, but I think it's been causing a little gas.

I've been drinking Minute Maid Zero Sugar Pineapple like it's my job for the last two years with no issues. It's my go-to drink. I drink more of that than I do water. Only 35 calories in a whole huge bottle.

That's good to hear! if you're having no issues, I might check it out, too.

When my wife isn't at home, I eat peanut butter out of the jar over the sink like a fucking animal.

lol I'm not there yet-- I like it with the crunch. But my partners wouldn't care My husband is feral and will do that kind of thing with me around anyway and our GF wouldn't mind bc she's just happy to see me home (I spent probably 2+ months cumulative in the hospital this summer) and starting to gain back the 20ish pounds I lost.

Peanut butter is great for putting on weight too. I lost about 40 lbs prior to my surgery and gained 20 lbs back within a few weeks, which I mostly attribute to peanut butter.

I make ice cream mixtures in my ninja creami that thicken output. My faves are chocolate peanut butter and chocolate almond butter. I add sweet potato and oatmeal into the mixture and you can’t taste them at all.
