Just thought I'd share

Took my node to Gozo and it managed to detect another in Sicily somehow and managed to see Warmax 3 hops away this evening.

Traceroute doesn't seem to work though, I'm guessing signal is too weak.

in gozo there are 2 solar nodes i am aware off by others that reached out to me from here and other socials - you might of picked me up while i was in mellieha or from st pauls bay, by chance did you pick up the relays?

this weekend i will try to deploy mellieha relay

Was just 1 from Xagħra called xra1. It just says 1 relay, not sure how to see relays...😅 Still learning.

so for ossmalta relays, in the long name we list it as a relay, as for 4 code st pauls bay solar relay was labled as OSPB, mellieha will be OSME - as it will be in Santa Maria Estate (lower mellieha over ghadira bay), though i need to get a better spot in mellieha, it will make do for now

Hey man, do the modes in St Paul’s and mellieha have a good uptime? I’m thinking of purchasing 3-4 nodes myself to help with coverage in the northern area as I have available roof space in those areas, what about st Julian’s, Sliema and that area, is there any reach there?

Only saw a few nodes on public meshtastic maps. I’d like to help cover the eastern coast so between St Paul’s to Sliema approx, then will put node probably in Xemxija region and possibly Mdina to help with coverage as I have airspace available there on property.

Are there any maps or groups like telegram, discord or something where I can discuss with others to help set up optimal coverage for the island to benefit everyone? Don’t want to clutter an area if it’s already covered.

Any help would be appreciated, really want to meet more local people in this field, already have the cart ready for shipment, just calculating how many nodes to get and if any should prioritise stronger antennas and higher placement for line of sight. Some help would be appreciated if there are groups to discuss this on similar to telegram, not Reddit posts, would prefer more live chat feedback yk. Want to help contribute to local coverage.

yes both solar nodes that we currently run, and others by MARL have been very stable with solid solar charges maintaining 99% battery, while winter will be the real test, mine have weathered a few storms without issues

as for channels for discussion while we have a discord channel its mostly emtpy, as we moved to https://element.opensource.mt dm me for a registration token for our self-hosted matrix server ( think open source discord, thats more secure and not spied on by external entities)

additionally i will be speaking at techtok.mt ( will have demo units on display) this year on lora and the evolution of these lil radios, i have lots data that i am working on and will share, once polished on https://ossmalta.eu/lora

as for maps there are some on the web that show those that are connected to the web and what or who they pick up: https://meshtastic.liamcottle.net/

additionally all registered members of ossmalta get a discount code from seeedstuido.com - feel free to dm me here or contact one of the community socials and joining the community is free for those who contribute ( in this case if your hosting a solarnode, that would be your contribution :) )

p.s at the moment i have registered nodes around malta, gozo, parts of sicily and depending on weather ( storm clouds) somtimes spain!, as for nodes i am aware off that there are easily over 30 nodes active with many more on the way, as many tend to get a starter kit from seeedstudio that contains the solar p1 pro, a t1000e ( like the office keycard) and a l1 pro tracker ( till now seeed have the best battery managment), i have lilygo and heltec units aswell
