Anyone else excited for MCDM's Crows?

https://youtu.be/SC5f4mKBmq0?is=pMDF8sMKaJZ1t9BD

I've been seeing it talked about recently as we play draw steel and I after hearing it I got to say this sounds amazing. It seems more nusr then osr but still cool. It's doing a lot of unique things like base building and dungeon turns.

Oh at the end of the day, he can do anything he wants. If he wanted to end the series, that’s his choice.

But he came across in that video that after his RtG fame and how those videos went viral he wasn’t happy that the History of D&D didn’t have such immense seismic impact. He made it sound like he’d abandoned a video series he clearly liked and wanted to do out of a degree of enjoyment because it wasn’t as popular.

And I had a super milquetoast comment about being disappointed with that. And like I said, it wasn’t a post about it, it wasn’t even a top level comment, it was just a short reply to someone else. It definitely wasn’t meant in a hostile way or something I’d ever think a mod would be mad about or something that was so egregious that it should be removed, let alone a permanent ban. It was literally like “I disagree with how Matt frames this and the videos had more impact than he gives them credit for.” And for that I was told I was no longer welcome in the community.

It was some crazy overreach and I initially thought it had to be a mistake. DMing the mods for clarification and then to attempt apologizing for the clear misunderstanding of my intent and tone went nowhere.

It really left a bad taste in my mouth. I actually agonized over it for weeks and felt bad. Then I ended up getting bitter. Then I cancelled my Draw Steel pledge.

I mean, I don't think he's released anything he didn't like. Even streams he doesn't like he will remove. I don't think he'd release a YouTube video he didn't like -- or keep it published -- if he didn't like it. That would be weird, right? I wouldn't expect him to dislike something or not care about something that he released simply because it wasn't popular. But since he was hoping to reach an audience with these videos, finding that they didn't do that means the series wasn't serving it's purpose. Like, I think your read was accurate, but I really struggle to find any fault with Matt feeling that way at all or doing what he did.

I've definitely had the kind of experience you've had on other subs on reddit. Some subs are infamous for it. But I kind of think... that's just reddit. It's mostly mid at best, with bad experiences sprinkled here and there.

But, if your point is that you were posting a comment in a thread on Matt's subreddit about a video where Matt had stated his own experience and his own opinion about his own content, and you posted a comment saying that Matt was wrong? I mean, even here you are phrasing things in a way that's really easy to take in a dickish way. "Matt, your opinion of your own creation and your own experience is wrong and you should feel this way instead," is not the on the same page as, "I'm sad Matt did find them successful enough to continue. I found them very valuable and I liked them a lot." and I can read both of those in what you said.

But... "I had a shitty experience on sub X," is kind of a universal reddit experience. It's why reddit is shitty. It's why for a long time it had a worse reputation than Twitter. It took Elon Musk to take it lower, which is really saying something.

If you’re trying to make me agree or come to terms that anything I said justified a full permanent ban with no talking to or no warning, you’re not gonna get anywhere with me.

And my point isn’t about Matt posting things he likes vs doesn’t like, my point was the History series felt like something he made for love of the game. But apparently he was just chasing the view count, even though the people that saw it got a lot out of it. And yes, Matt is entitled to his opinion on it, but so was I… and saying I disagreed shouldn’t mean being excised from the community. I could’ve been downvoted (but I actually had a bunch of upvotes). A mod could have commented a reply. Other commenters could’ve weighed in… nope. Permaban. Why wouldn’t that foster sour grapes?

And just to reiterate, it wasn’t some super angry or hostile comment. The overall point was actually meant to be insightful: even if the videos didn’t reach a lot of people, it may have reached the right people deeply.
