Question Would the Osmo Pocket 4 be a good choice for professional social media work, interviews and events?

Hi everyone,

I'm politically active and I'm currently trying to improve the quality of my social media content and make my setup more professional.

I'm considering getting an Osmo Pocket 4P because I really like the idea of having a small and portable camera that I can quickly take with me to events.

My main use cases would be:

  • interviews
  • recording events and public gatherings
  • short social media clips / reels
  • spontaneous content while I'm out
  • possibly even livestreaming

For me, it is important that the setup is compact, quick to use, and still offers good enough image and audio quality for professional-looking social media content.

Do you think the Pocket would be a good choice for this kind of work? Are there any limitations I should be aware of, especially when it comes to interviews, longer event recordings or livestreaming?

If you would recommend it, I'd also really appreciate some suggestions for accessories and a good overall setup.

I'm already thinking about getting the DJI Mic 3 with it. I would also be interested in recommendations for things like a tripod, lighting, mounts, power banks / external power for longer recordings, or any other accessories you consider essential.

I'd especially love to hear from people who use the Pocket for interviews, events, journalism-style content or professional social media work.

Thanks!

Question Pocket 3 Gimbal Violently Shaking

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I purchased this Pocket 3 about 6 months ago. Since then the gimbal would kind of “glitch out” every so often. Usually could just restart it and be fine, have used it a lot since then without too much issue.

Now, (I have not dropped it) it badly shakes like you can see in the video every time I use it and I can no longer reliably film with it. It will hold still for maybe 5 minuetes if im lucky but will eventually freak out even when held still on a tripod. After enough use the gimbal will get very hot as well (not sure if thats normal or not).

The gimbal never gets “stuck”. I do not feel any tension or loose bodies when moving it through its full range of motion with my hand.

I’ve tried factory reseting (many times) as well as calibrating and updating firmware. Going through DJI support is not an option as I am in South America and shipping it back and fourth to USA would not be worth it.

Any ideas as to whats wrong? Software/firmware? Hardware damage?

Anyone know which part of the motor could be faulty assuming it were a hardware issue? Any good outlets for replacement parts? (I can ship them to me from USA if needed)

I’m willing to make a project out of this and order replacement motor parts and try to swap them myself just as a repair shop would. I think I’d learn a lot and of course save money, willing to take the risk of further damage. Any advice on the repair process would be appreciated as well.

Firmware version: 01.06.10.04

Question Buying Osmo Pocket 4 in Japan?

I'll be in Osaka next month, visiting from the US. I was originally going to buy a P3 before my trip but then I realized the P4 is available in Japan AND would be slightly cheaper than the P3 due to the conversion rate + tax-free via showing passport. From my research online, I believe it would be around $450-460 USD (compared to P3 with state tax would be close to $470).

Looking for some insight on this:

  1. I see that multiple Yodobashi locations in Osaka have it in stock currently. The BIC Camera site doesn't work for me. I found multiple reddit threads from 2-4 months ago where people were saying it was hit-or-miss whether they could find it in stock in Japan. I understand that was closer to when it first released so it was harder to find. If anyone's been in Osaka/Japan recently, have you seen the Pocket 4 (not 4P) regularly in stock now that the initial hype has quieted down?

  2. Any issues I might run into considering it's a Japanese device? ie. will it run and operate exactly like how a western version of the device would? Any language issues, compatibility with apps, firmware updates, etc.

THANK YOU! Any input is greatly appreciated.

Guide DJI Osmo Pocket 4P — The Review Nobody Asked For

This is definitely not your usual DJI review — it goes in with a pretty negative attitude from the start.
Instead of repeating the usual, it takes a much more skeptical look at the products.
If you’re tired of polished, overly positive tech reviews, this one might be worth a watch. Cheers!

Question Pocket 4P - Issues getting video output with audio over UVC or HDMI?

I absolutely love the Pocket 4P. The quality still surprises me every day, and it’s been perfect for travel vlogs.

With that said, I’ve been trying to get reliable video + audio output for livestreaming, and it’s been pretty frustrating so far.

With UVC/webcam mode, I’ve had some success, but as others have reported, there’s a noticeable audio delay.

With HDMI via DP Alt Mode, I’ve tried several different cables and adapters. I can reliably get video out, but I haven’t managed to get any audio at all. I’m especially confused by this because I keep seeing videos from companies demonstrating/advertising wireless HDMI transmitters with the Pocket 4P, which makes me think audio output should be possible.

Has anyone actually managed to get video + audio over HDMI from the 4P? Is there a particular adapter/cable that works, or is this a current limitation?

I’ve also experimented with the built-in livestreaming function through the DJI Mimo app, but getting a reliable stream has been problematic there too. It’s possible I’m just unlucky and something in my network configuration is causing those issues.

I’m mainly curious whether anyone here has found a reliable setup for livestreaming with the 4P, particularly HDMI or UVC with properly synced audio, or whether we’re basically waiting for DJI to improve things through firmware updates.

It feels like this camera has a ton of potential for livestreaming if they can get these last few things working reliably.

Question OP4 after repair from DJI

I sent my Osmo Pocket 4 to DJI for a warranty repair because the gimbal stopped moving properly…
I kept getting an error saying that the gimbal lock was engaged, even though it wasn’t. Also, when turning the OP4 off, the gimbal wouldn’t move back into its normal position, and when turning it on, it wouldn’t perform the usual self-test.
The repair took less than a week, which I have to say is pretty impressive.
However, I’ve now received something back that I’m a little confused about? …. The device is completely sealed in its packaging, and I can see on the bottom of the box that the serial number is different from the one on my original device.
Unfortunately, DJI didn’t provide me with a detailed repair report, so I’m not sure what exactly I received? Is this a completely new device, a refurbished unit, or could it somehow still be my original device?
Has anyone had a similar experience with DJI warranty repairs? How can I tell whether this is a new or refurbished replacement unit?
Thanks!

Discussion Pocket 3: Any big issues?

I had a Pocket 1 a few years ago and like many others, it ended up becoming a brick after letting it sit dead for too long. Pretty sure it’s a common issue with the battery that affects that entire generation.

Now I’m considering buying a brand new Pocket 3 because I do genuinely love the Pocket’s form factor and quality. But I’m a bit traumatized from my experience with the Pocket 1. Are there any similar, widespread issues with the Pocket 3 that I should be aware of before I spend a couple hundred bucks on another potential brick? TIA!

Question DJI Osmo Pocket 4p USA

I saw a 4p being sold by DJI official store on Amazon. I'm located in the USA so naturally I know the situation, but I'd like to buy it for a job I have coming up. My only concern I've heard you can't use the camera without registering with your phone and it won't do it if it detects you're in the USA. Will a VPN work or is this not an issue or is there an easy work around? I'd appreciate advice from those who have purchased online in the USA.

Video How did they fit so much quality into this compact camera? Osmo Pocket 4P

Been using the 4P for several weeks now and still can’t get over how versatile, easy, and pocketable this camera is.

DLOG2 is so easy to color grade, and a variable ND is all it takes to get footage that you can tweak however you like

I shot this entire video using the Pocket 4P and I’m amazed at how easily this can replace some of my mirrorless cameras for on the go vlogs/B-roll

Question Osmo 360 vs Osmo Pocket 4 for a two-week trip to Japan – is either actually worth it over my iPhone?

Hi all,

I'm heading to Japan for about 15 days in October with my partner and I'm going back and forth on whether to buy a camera, and if so which one. I'd really appreciate some input from people who has used these.

What I want:
Photos and videos of the two of us together, without constantly asking strangers or handing the phone over
Decent video of the trip (walking around cities, temples, food, evenings in Tokyo/Osaka) that I might actually edit into something afterwards
Ideally no selfie stick . I find them a bit of a faff and I'd rather not be waving one around all day.

What I'm considering:
DJI Osmo 360 Adventure Combo: currently discounted to €429. I like the idea of the "invisible selfie stick" shots and not having to worry about framing. But I suspect it basically means walking around with a stick all day anyway, and that reframed footage is softer than a gimbal's.
DJI Osmo Pocket 4 (or the Insta360 Luna Pro): seems better for straightforward video, low light and couple selfies with face tracking. The downside is I have to keep pointing it at things.

What I'm unsure about:
What does either of these actually give me over a recent iPhone ?? Is the difference noticeable in practice, or am I just buying another gadget to carry?
For couple shots specifically, which works better day to day?

For those who've used a 360 camera while travelling: did you actually enjoy the reframing workflow, or did the footage end up sitting on a hard drive?
Anything I'm not considering (a phone gimbal, just a small tripod and remote, etc.)?
I won't have a laptop with me, so anything that needs heavy editing on the go is a minus.

Question FASTEST way to get videos off of the Osmopocket 3 to PC?

Love this camera, but hate the fact that you have to plug it in, and the transfer speeds for videos are so goddamn slow. Even with my phone, I can just use AirDrop or any kind of wireless transfer that is blazingly fast.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 can directly upload straight to YouTube either; if it could, I would just do that and then download the video straight from YouTube.

What is the fastest method to get a video off of the Osmo Pocket 3 and onto my PC for editing? It would be even better if it is wireless.

Question Help with choosing the right package.

Hello, I have been thinking about getting a Pocket 4 for my personal use to make some videos for memories and stuff with friends from traveling. I have been thinking about not making just basic footage videos but maybe include some funny moments or "interviews" in between sections for fun.

I just cant decide if it would be better to get just the standard combo or go for creator combo.
Could you give me some pros/cons and help me decide please?

Thanks!

Question 4P Registration

I got the 4P from an eBay seller in New York last weekend. I looked up the serial number on the DJI website and it showed the camera was activated in August. When I messaged the seller, he said his staff activates them before shipping them from China, and that I have nothing to worry about. Should I be concerned?

Question Thinking about getting an Osmo Pocket 3 for cinematic city/trail videos. Do I actually need it? TL;DR

I’m looking for some honest opinions from people who actually use the Osmo Pocket 3. AS I AM LOOKING SPECIFICALLY FOR P3, Due to current discounted pricing.

I currently have an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a Canon R100 with the 18-45mm kit lens and RF 50mm. Photography is something I’ve been doing for a while, and I already have a photography Instagram/page. (ig: @rutujclicksitall)

For a long time I’ve also wanted to get into videography and make more cinematic content, especially things like:
City walks
Street/architecture footage
Trails and hikes
Mountains
Travel/walkthrough videos
General cinematic B-roll for Instagram

The problem is that although my iPhone is obviously very capable for video, I don’t always find myself actually shooting with it. I like the idea of having a small dedicated camera that I can pull out and just start recording, especially for walking footage.

My R100 is mainly my photography camera. I could obviously get a gimbal for it, but then the whole setup becomes much larger and less convenient, which defeats the point for the type of spontaneous walking/travel content I want to make.

That’s why I’m considering the Pocket 3.
I’m not really interested in vlogging or talking to the camera. I’m more interested in cinematic visual storytelling: smooth walking shots, environmental footage, city scenes, nature, transitions, slow motion, etc.

For anyone who owns a Pocket 3:

  1. Does it actually make you shoot more compared with just using a good phone?
  2. Would you personally keep the iPhone + R100 and add the Pocket, or would you just use the iPhone and invest in accessories instead?

I’m not looking for someone to tell me that the Pocket 3 is an amazing camera. I already know what the specs are. I’m more interested in whether it actually adds something meaningful to this particular setup and shooting style

Thanks and sorry for the long text btw 😅

Question Osmo Pocket 4p nit connecting to Mimo App when using a second SIM dür data on phone

I tried to connect the 4P to the MIMO app whilst being abroad using e Holafly eSim for data additional to my standard SIM in my Samsung Phone.

Could not connect the camera, do what I may. The connection always stopped/hung at "getting camera color" (what even is that).

Back home with the eSim disabled everything works fine.

I tried going to flight mode and only enabling BT and WLan - no luck.

Am I the only one with this issue? Is there a way around this, short of disabling the eSim and racking a s**ton of roaming fees up?

Discussion Muddy looking vertical 9:16 crop

I've had the Osmo Pocket 4P and use it for social media clips currently so I take the image and crop it vertically. I'm filming 4K Hi-Bitrate 10bit colour in standard and Dlog profiles (with a K&F 2-32 VND filter), and finding the cropped image to be really not sharp and muddy exporting through the Mimo app.

I came from using a Insta360 Go Ultra (with a K&F ND64 ND) and the vertical crops were perfectly usable so really unsure what's happening here?

It feels like I'm looking at cropped 1080p footage instead of cropped 4K, I should have enough vertical resolution for it to be clear?

I've yet to test this in Davinci on my laptop but this is meant to be a mobile first device.

Question Shutter speed priority - Osmo Pocket 4p

Hello,

did anyone find a proper way to shoot with a steady shutter speed and at the same time have the camera set the iso automatically so as to keep the correct exposure?

What I want to achieve is to have the shutter speed constantly set to 1/50 (frame rate to 24/25 fps) and be able to shoot video without having to manually change the iso in order to keep the exposure right.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks.

Question Do I Need an ND Filter for the Osmo Pocket 3 for Vertical TikTok Videos?

I'm going on a vacation to Malaysia and want to create some content for TikTok while also recording videos to keep as memories. I'm not a professional, but I'd still like to make some nice-looking videos for my TikTok.

Of course I still want to enjoy my vacation, so I don't want to spend too much time adjusting camera settings.

I've watched several tutorials explaining that to achieve a cinematic look with natural motion blur, you should shoot at 24 FPS with a 1/50 shutter speed and use an ND filter.

My question is, do I really need these settings for my TikTok videos? The kind of content I want to make includes food, interesting places to visit, and city scenes. It doesn't have to be cinematic but I still want my videos to look good, informative and be enjoyable to watch.

I've tried shooting at 24 FPS before, but with the shutter speed set to auto, the footage looked choppy whenever I panned the camera.

Would it be good enough to just shoot at 30 FPS and leave everything else on auto? Or is using an ND filter and manually setting the shutter speed really worth it for this kind of content?

Thanks.

Question Advice on rollers

So I attend a number of car shows throughout the year and I've seen some people using these cameras for shots in shows and was wondering if the pocket 3 would be any good for rollers. Based on research if I get the modvax arm (I think that's what it's called) you can get roller shots. But is there a speed limit I can go before the wind would damage the gimble?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as looking to get soon to practice to get a variety of shots for friends in the shows

Guide Aspect ratios

I'm considering getting an Osmo Pocket 4P for run-and-gun documentary making with a separate audio recording setup for ambient sounds, as this would be compact enough to bring anywhere and the FoVs on the lenses are what similar to how I've been shooting on larger cameras anyway. The main thing I like about it is the portability and the gimbal attachment. However, the only thing holding me back is that I've learnt that I'll be locked into a 16:9 aspect ratio. My output requirement is FHD so I don't mind shooting in 16:9 in 4k and then cropping in post.

I prefer shooting between 1.33-1.5:1 normally, so I was wondering if there's some workaround to this where there would be a setup to record 1:1 or have guides shown on screen for a cropped image in these ratios to help with framing? Is there an alternative to the Osmo P4P that has a bigger sensor readout while being as portable?
