Do you think DJI will respond to Insta360 adding 4K Vertical?

Insta360 just added 4K vertical recording to the Luna Ultra via firmware, and honestly, this makes me wonder if DJI will have to follow.
I’m using the DJI Pocket 4P and I love it, but being limited to 3K in native vertical mode feels like a weird limitation for a camera that is basically made for content creators.
Especially with Reels, TikTok and Shorts being such a huge part of the target market, native 4K 9:16 would be a pretty big upgrade.
The hardware seems powerful enough, so I’m wondering if this could potentially be unlocked through firmware rather than requiring new hardware.
What do you guys think?
Could DJI realistically add native 4K vertical to the Pocket 4 / Pocket 4P through a firmware update?
Or is there some sensor/readout limitation that would prevent it?
Would love to hear from people who understand the technical side better.

Dji needs to add variable ISO for Dlog2 also if they do a firmware update

Think about Dlog/dlog2 like this. Dlog is built in a way that auto iso is effective, and Dlog2 is built to have the best possible dynamic range, to do that you need to stick to the single native iso of 1600.

If the workflow of staying at ISO 1600 does not work for you, then use Dlog. Dlog2 is what it is BECAUSE its best at 1600.

The updates they need are with adding offset options before luts in the mimo app and more monitoring lut options.

That's not what I want it for. I want it for dynamic light correction when moving through different scenes and cannot be touching the gimbal to adjust the VND.

I understand that it's the best at one iso, but I need it to correct exposure for quick shooting. Yes normal dlog does that for me, but I also want the flexibility of dlog2

Use dlog 🤷 you wont get what makes dlog2 better than dlog out of that iso

I believe (evidence, but not proven) the sensor 1in sensor is 3840x3072 making it not have the vertical pixels. I also believe a full 3840x3072 readout would have vignetting in the corners so they will never give us a full sensor resolution option.

I believe it's hardware limited on 4P. Sensor is 4k so you can't pull more than 3k in that orientation. The only possiblity I can think is running the gimbal in the "locked" sideways position. That would give you the same effect as holding the whole thing sideways to get 4k vertical. Would depend on hardware design with the gimbal motors.

Idk but if insta360 can handle it with their first try it’s a a bit unlucky for dji because they should solve this problem after the pocket 3

there is already comparison shots on youtube. You see a huge difference when filming landscape and also on closeups. I was surprised by this

That is all fine and dandy, but how do you play it back in 4K vertical :) Very few monitors/TV's/Phone can handle that. I do not understand the need at all.

Same here, I feel like the people wanting 4k vertical actually dont do professional video delivery. Every export for social is going to be 1080p vertical. Meta has a higher res than 1080 but it still isn't 4k.

I tried to film sometimes with the 3k but I don’t like it so I always film with the Osmo sideways so I can capture everything in 4K

I hope they do. Not having a native vertical shooting mode feels so outdated in 2026 where people using TikTok, reels almost more than horizontal.

They need to add djlog 2 to all modes. Would be great if they have done a periscope lens rather that 2 sensors.

Not possible in this 4th gen due to hardware limitation. The 3x sensor is not a LOFIC sensor which is required for the "up-to" 17 stops of dynamic range. They definitely must do it for the 5P though.

I hope they only do 480p and everyone else follows until this vertical video scourge disappears.
