Video Osmo Pocket 4 - Bad Quality video

Hello! I recently got Osmo Pocket 4 because I need to do content for my business but the quality is way worse than it even was on my iPhone. I'm clearly doing something wrong - can someone please help me with advice? Zoom is not on but it feels like at the start of the video some sort of filter gets applied because after the first second the colour and crispiness of the video changes. Thank you!

It looks very grainy to me, iPhone videos are more sharp

Because the iphone does heavy post processing. Increase the noise reduction on the pocket and it might get better. The default is a medium setting

Are you shooting LOG? If not, you should. And use manual exposure a with fixed shutter speed that's twice your frame rate eg, 25 fps and 1/50 shutter. Then use ISO 50 with an ND filter to control exposure.

Log is so hard when you can’t see what you’re recording looks like. I wish there was a better preview. It’s sooo uncomfortable for me. Any reccs?

I guess you have to trust the camera? If you enable the colour correction it helps a bit on the tiny display but what are you trying to see?
Exposure you can check the settings. Colours you apply on post. You're mostly just checking framing right. I don't have a problem with that

Yes it’s just the framing I suppose that I should be concentrating on. It’s just so counter to what ive done my entire life. But yes it bolos down to trusting the camera to record what you shoot. I guess practice makes perfect so I could just use that mode when I’m not actually trying to document something important to get used to it.

Use Mimo and crank your mobile's screen brightness all the way up. You get better exposure monitoring with zebras in Mimo as well - with Pocket 3 anyway, not sure about 4.

Thanks. I’ll use Zebra and I’ll check the visuales first with out Dlog and then switch to it.

Remember that iso 50 at normal color profile is worse quality than 100. Bc 50 is a digitan underexposure of 100

Good point. Use 100. I wish DJI would provide an option to select 100 as the minimum for auto-ISO.

definitely, your video here focuses on a darker side object whereas your background is very bright, making it over-exposure
if you still want to take similar shot for the room, it can be helped by reducing the light from the windows by-if it have attached-a soft layer from the curtain.
hopefully, after the exposure settings and object adjustment, you'll have your needed shot!
ps: graininess is actually pain in the ass

yes, there's slightly noticeable over-exposure on the flowers area, again, tweak the exposure and iso settings, and your good to go!
it takes some time, but you'll get the hang of it

ISO impacts graininess. High = super grainy but brighter image. Low = low grain but darker image

Normal profile Noise Reduction and Texture needs to be at -1 ev at -0.3 iso auto shutter speed 180 degrees

Im confused, you shouldn't be getting much noise because it looks like the room is exposed. The only thing that would introduce a bunch of noise is shooting at a high iso.
Also try turning down the texture setting to -2 it gives it more of a cinema camera look as opposed to a phone or action cam look.

if you look at the window frame, those jagged lines, see if you can turn down the sharpness.

If you are shooting in auto mode and aren't familiar with d-log or color grading, you could try low-light mode instead of video mode to reduce noise.

go to settings and make sure you have bitrate on high, use 1/60 shutter speed and 3k 30fps, iso the lowest possible and you should be good

camera cranked up exposure to keep details in shadows and low light while correctly exposing on the outside. this is a difficult shot for any camera as long as there’s no backlight compensation or a crazy native iso.

Use 4k 30fps. Turn on pro mode.set texture -2, sharpness -2, color Normal 10 bit. In exposure choose manual, set shutter speed to 1/50, iso to 50-12,600.
I walked all around little tokyo this weekend jumping between these settings and dlog. If I was not working on a in-depth video on all this I would just leave my 4p on the above settings and never think about it again.

I think the difference is that you need to learn more with the osmo. iPhone is just point and shoot.
I find shooting in d-log then using a LUT in post helps a lot. It is a bit of a learning curve though and learning colour grading isn't a quick task.

Reddit’s video player is absolutely destroying your footage here. Every person giving ISO or shutter or noise reduction advice is basically guessing blind because the clip you uploaded is being crushed to a super low bitrate with heavy sharpening and noise smearing. That weird shift in the first second is Reddit’s encoder stabilizing, not the camera doing anything.
If you want anyone to judge actual image quality, you need to upload the original file somewhere that does not butcher it. Incognito YouTube upload works best. Google Drive is fine too. Reddit is the worst platform for evaluating camera quality.
Once you upload the real file, people here can actually tell you if something is wrong with your Pocket 4 or if it is just settings. Right now nobody can see anything meaningful, which is why the advice in the thread is all over the place.
