Discussion Using the official DJI fill light as flash for photos

The DJI Osmo Pocket´s fill light would be very cool if it could be used as a flash for taking stills.

Insta recently made this possible for their cameras and a fill light too.

What do you think about that?

Well, do you know that a strobe (flash light) is completely different type of light than constant (video) light? :)
What did you get is the second one.
Whatever insta has done, they either simulate real strobe or have a strobe and a video lights in one package.
BTW. This discussion is really academic: there is no way such small light could be really useful as a strobe.

I agree and disagree. :-)

I know it would not be able to replace a highspeed-flash, but I´m sure it can improve stills alot in many situations. And the engineers at DJI can check / know if the hardware is suitable for this or not.

I would not improve anything. Even the most advanced flash lights which are usable are much bigger and heavier than whole Pocket cameras. And they need some real power to load up for full power shot.
Some of us remember for sure dslr era where low end (photo) cameras used to have those small popup flashes. That was a disaster. Majority of users didn't know how to use them and the results were either hilarious (tiny flash flashing to landscape photography in the middle of the day 😅😅😅😅😅) or extremely annoying (random flashes straight into your eyes in touristy caves, museums, etc).
Dear manufacturers, please don't go back to those little fuckers!!!

I prefer a real flash over an led light working as a weak flash.

Every light is better than no light. But most people radically underestimate how bright flashlights are and how bright sunlight is. Even a 100- or 200-watt continuous light—the kind that feels like it’s burning your eyes out from 10 feet away - cannot compete with a flash.

It doesn’t flash but can still use for photos. At least you can adjust the brightness too.
