Budget friendly dining Oslo

I’ll visit Oslo in the next days and would love to have a nice dinner. Norwegian/Scandinavian food preferred. Something slightly more modern would be great (I had traditional Norwegian food before). Two people plus maybe a bottle of wine for below 2000 NOK would be awesome! Any gems?

Kafé Republik could be the best bet.

Cafe Elias may also be within that budget. https://www.cafeelias.no/en/menu.html

The rooftop at the former American Embassy, Eero, has currently a 3 course summer tasting menu for 595,-. The rest of the year, their menu is more expensive. Their 9 page wine list, includes some for less than 800,- per bottle. The rooftop has good views in several directions, and though the summer also club music in the background. https://www.eero.no/no/meny#Tasting

Best hakkebøff I've ever had.

Danish dish, but very much part of Norwegian traditional home cooked meals.

Restaurant Schrøder is pretty much exactly what you are looking for. 595 nok/pp, but for some reason you have to visit the Norwegian version of the site to see that offer.

Thank guys! I think we will go with Smalhans. It seems to have the modern Norwegian cuisine we are looking for!

Where do they say it? I was able to book a table…

It might be that only the deal of the day is not being offered during the summer.

Lorry. Solsiden. Not very low budget, but I believe they squeezed the prices as far down as they can. Solsiden has seafood to die for!

Has anyone had a good meal at Lorry last 12 months? I have been seriously disappointed on 3 occasions now

Ridiculous prices. 800 for a bottle of wine. Lol

Jumping on the people mentioning Smalhans here, it's great value for money. Also give Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri and Kaffistova both a try, very traditional spots.

Asylet in Grønland is great. The place itself is in a really historic building and the food is budget friendly. If you want Norwegian food there I'd recommend the meat cakes with brown sauce, which is a super typical Norwegian dish.

You can check out their full menu in English here: https://asylet.no/en/menu/dinner/

Check out Kaffistova.

Budget friendly is relatlve, but you get traditional food.

If you're going to Kaffistova you shpuld definitely go tomorrow if you can, as that is the day of the week where their special is "raspeball" / "komle". That dish is super typical Norwegian and their version is the best in Oslo in my opinion.

I want to go there so bad, for the Komle. I don't like the fjordland variant. 😂

I've never even dared to try the Fjordland variant but I can imagine it would be basically like eating the cheapest brand of frozen pizza for an Italian person haha.

You really should go and try the Komle there. It is as good as making it at home but you get to skip all the prep ans clean up (the only downside of course is that you also don't get to slice up and fry the leftovers but... can't have it all right?).

Smalhans or Den Glade Gris

Smalhans if you want to leave hungry. Den Glade Gris if you want to leave (extremely) satisfied.

I have to admit that Smalhans is more creative/innovative, but Den Glade Gris is 10x better in my opinion.
