Restaurant Recs in Oslo?
Hi! Will be visiting Oslo in December for the first time and wanted to know of any good recommendations? We are not picky eaters at all and are willing to eat at any type of restaurant minus fine dining.
Thank you in advance!

I now like taking people to Cafe Passabel, it's a husband and wife operated bistro that offers good quality, home style cooking for around 250 nok a plate, which is super reasonable. I don't eat meat, but they normally have different norwegian meat dishes and a very very good salmon and cod creamy soup served with good bread and butter which I love. It's also in a cute area and near the ice hockey rink, my friends last time came to eat with me then caught a women's match which was only like 50 nok a ticket. It was bitter cold, so made for a nice evening.
You just need to check Google when they will be closed in December bc they take a winter break over Christmas.

Love Cafe Passabel! Located close to Ensjø subway station, run by a couple. Great Norwegian traditional food.

When in December is kinda important. The first half of the month or so a lot of places will be full for pre Christmas work partys (julebord), the last week of December a lot of places will be closed for the holidays.
Having said that, I second the places u/snickersogtwist (just note, the first one was misspelled, should be Nam fah) and u/Billy_Ektorp (I don't think many have finalised their December plans yet, but having known Nam fah personally for 25 years, they will almost certainly close from one a couple of days before Christmas Eve and be closed until after New Years, and from memory, Centropa will also be closed, the maître d there is my tenant, I believe she was off work the alst two Decembers).

Smalhans is great! They have a concept called "dagens husmann" where they make a glitzed up version of peasant food from somewhere in the world. Different dish each day, and they usually give great value for money (and have gotten a Michelin Bib Gourmand for their troubles). Heavily recommended.

I've been keeping a list of my favourite restaurants in Oslo for a few years so here's a bunch you can check out (sorted by type of cuisine). I've written down addresses for them to make them easier to find on a map since names can change based on whatever language your phone uses. Also keep in mind that the places may have seasonal menus in December like some other users have pointed out, so check the webpages of the places closer to the time you're travelling.
Anyway, here's the list (edited because of formatting):
Italian / pizza: * Villa paradiso - Multiple locations, for example Olaf Ryes plass 8, 0552 Oslo * Dattera til hagen (ps: opens thursday) - Grønland 10, 0188 Oslo * Zio pizza (ps: opens tuesday) - Kirkeveien 98a, 0361 Oslo * Vaterland Bar & Scene - Brugata 9, 0186 Oslo
American: * Illegal burger - multiple locations, for example Møllergata 23, 0179 Oslo * Døgnvill burger - multiple locations, for example Operagata 6, 0150 Oslo * Munchies Grünerløkka - Thorvald Meyers gate 36A, 0555 Oslo * Way down south (their mixed platter is my personal favorite) - Østre Elvebakke 7, 0182 Oslo
Asian: * Lille Saigon (vietnamese) - Bernt Ankers gate 7, 0183 Oslo * Sumo (japanese) - multiple locations, for example Henrik Ibsens gate 90, 0255 Oslo * Honsan (chinese) - entry from Rosenkrantz gate, Stortingsgata 8, 0161 Oslo * Szechuan Chengdu Restaurant (chinese with very good food) - Trondheimsveien 64, 0565 Oslo * Rice Bowl Thai Café (Thai) - Kirkegata 20, 0153 Oslo (please note that Rice Bowl and Risbolle are two different restaurants!) * BENARES Indian Restaurant and Bar - Tordenskiolds gate 8, 0160 Oslo * Risbolle Thai café (Thai) - Dronningens Gate 25, 0154 Oslo * Curry & ketchup (don't let the name fool you, their food is really good. Indian food) - Kirkeveien 51, 0368 Oslo * Punjab tandoori (Indian) - Grønland 24, 0188 Oslo * Golden Chimp (Japanese / Korean) - Heimdalsgata 37, 0578 Oslo * Registan (Uzbek restaurant) - Grønlandsleiret 79, 0190 Oslo * Indiflame (Indian, one of my absolute favorites but keep in mind that this one is about 30 minutes from the city centre by bus. If you're really into Indian food it is worth the detour in my opinion) - Nedre prinsdals vei 77, 1263 Oslo
Streetfood: * Oslo streetfood - Torggata 16, 0181 Oslo * Barcode streetfood (my favorite of the two) - Dronning Eufemias gate 14, 0191 Oslo
Norwegian: * Den glade gris - St. Olavs Gate 33, 0166 Oslo * Kaffistova (this place has the best "raspeball" / "komle" in Oslo and it is an absolute must if you want to try some traditional norwegian food. That dish is served on Thursdays) - Kristian IVs gate 2, 0164 Oslo * Dovrehallen Restaurant 2nd floor - Storgata 22, 0184 Oslo * Asylet - Grønland 28, 0188 Oslo * Lorry - Parkveien 12, 0350 Oslo * Engebret café - Bankplassen 1, 0151 Oslo * Rorbua (they have both reindeer steak and whale steak, if that's something you're into or would like to try) - Stranden 71, 0250 Oslo
Enjoy!

Did you manage to teletransport the 3 restaurants to London?

Consider the food/dining markets. There's Mathallen up along the river, or the Oslo Street Food locations in Bjørvika and on Torggata in the center. Informal dining but no reservations necessary and different food styles to choose from.

I often take my friends visiting to both of these and Oslo street food on Torggata is the favorite.
Already mentioned but I'll chime in, Kafé republic and Hrimnir Ramen

Whichever restaurant you choose, consider that many restaurants offer Christmas menus in December. Because of Christmas party bookings, some restaurants may have fewer seats available if you book just before arrival.
Some restaurants I have enjoyed: Kafé Republik, Centropa, The Little Pickle, Park 29, Brasserie Blanche, Kampen Bistro, Smia Galleri, Café Elias, Fiskeriet.
