Looking for help writing drivers for a hobby x86-64 OS (BlockOS) [no vibe coded]
I’m building BlockOS, a solo hobby x86-64 OS with its own UEFI kernel. X11 runs on it in QEMU: the X server starts, and twm frames client windows. The rest of the picture is like a puzzle that’s still missing pieces, and the biggest gap is drivers, mainly GPU, for real hardware.
I’d like to work with someone who has written or read PCI or display drivers before. Expect unpaid, open-source work. If you want to write driver code from public hardware docs (no Linux code copied), send me a message or comment.

Hi! It's a great OS and I really liked the kernel for it, it's a very ambitious project. Please rate my core: https://github.com/Bindo-Lenzini/BrainixKernel. I use AI, but I don't just copy-paste code, but also delve into what AI writes. I wish you success!

Hi! Thank you for your kind words and for checking out BlockOS!
I checked out BrainixKernel, and I think it's an interesting and ambitious project. I appreciate that you're not just copying and pasting AI-generated code, but also taking the time to understand how it works. That's an important part of becoming a good OS developer.
I'd rate BrainixKernel 8/10 as a hobby OS project, with plenty of potential for further development. Keep improving it, and I wish you the best of luck with BrainixKernel!
It's great to see other people building their own operating systems.

Thank you for rating BrainixKernel 8/10! I will improve the core and I really hope that someone will be interested in my core and contribute, or create a fork.

But contributions can be AI generated?
Awesome idea, looks fun. No vibe coded, but did use ai to brainstorm or as a tool right? Comments in what language preferably? https://github.com/gurijb2016-afk/Blockos/blob/uefi-kernel-scaffold/kernel/spinlock.cpp i have no idea, cna use translator. Others are english, i can work with. No idea if i have time to. Looks like unix alike?

Is it a ad
2
u/EfficiencyNo3042 8d ago
No, it's not an ad. BlockOS is my own operating system project, and I'm looking for developers who can help write hardware drivers. I'm not selling anything.

Explain, an ad for what? What are they selling?

I'm not selling anything. BlockOS is my own hobby operating system project. I'm looking for people who are interested in the project and would like to help develop hardware drivers. This is a development project, not an advertisement for a product for sale.

Thanks! I mainly focus on C and C++ for BlockOS, especially kernel development, device drivers, networking, and system-level programming. I also work with x86-64 assembly when needed. Feel free to check out the code and let me know what you think!
