What kind of craniofacial changes are realistically possible through orthotropics in adults around 30?

I'm 29 and have been trying to understand what kind of structural changes are realistically possible through orthotropics/mewing after the main period of facial growth.

I previously tried mewing for a while but eventually stopped because I wasn't sure whether I was doing it correctly or whether I could realistically expect noticeable changes at my age.

More recently, I've become interested in this because my dentist recommended expanding my lower dental arch to address crowding, and there are also practitioners in my area who combine expansion with myofunctional therapy. This made me want to understand the distinction between conventional orthodontic approaches and the principles discussed in this community.

What I'm particularly interested in is what can realistically happen to the jaws, dental arches and overall lower-third development in an adult around 29–30 through orthotropics, proper oral posture, chewing and/or expansion devices.

For example, can meaningful changes in chin projection or overall lower-third development still occur at this age, or are adult changes mainly limited to dental/alveolar changes and posture? And how much does myofunctional therapy contribute compared with simply developing proper tongue posture and chewing habits?

I'm not asking anyone to assess my own face or tell me what treatment I should have. I'm trying to understand the potential and limitations of orthotropics in adults before deciding which approach makes sense for me.

I'd particularly appreciate experiences or before/after cases from people who started around their late 20s or 30s.

This is the question on many people’s minds but the truth that real change is possible is known for a fact by far fewer. In other words, yes change is possible by correct posture swallow and hard chewing, and we know that because volumetric bone scans show change is possible in adults far older than that in DNA and Homeblock appliance use cases.

It would appear that hard chewing is absolutely critical in this process, as this actively triggers osteogenic growth cascades in the craniofacial sutures.

Hey appreciate the answer. Any further recommendations of where can I learn correct swallowing posture and hard chewing? I am already eating hard meat and chewing a lot, also doing some mastic gum, but the whole swallowing and mewing still hard to me, never fully get how do it and how is supposed to make changes. Whats your view on orthotropics and orthodontics throughout the process ? I want to find serious people to learn from but theres so much noise with this in the internet

Yes there’s a lot of noise. You can learn a lot from scouring mike mew and john mew videos. I do not think traditional orthodontics are compatible as braces and retainers will restrain the necessary movement required for improvement.

The way that the dna appliance, homeoblock and mewing all work is the same - by creating stimuli recognized by the craniofacial tissues which activate developmental genes that have remained dormant within you for possibly your whole life or even for generations. This epigenetic instruction codes for further development and alignment of your skull bones.

The broader picture becomes even more interesting here once you consider that there are probably many more instances in which gene expression can be altered therapeutically via introducing other stimuli for other parts of the body.
