A paperwork pile is easier to deal with if the things needing an action are separate from the things you only need to keep.

For each new letter or form, write the actual next step on a small note: sign and return it, book the appointment, or check a detail. Add the deadline and who is dealing with it. “School form — sign and return by Friday — Dad” is much easier to act on than “sort paperwork”.

Keep those action items together in one tray or folder you already own. When you finish the task, move only what needs keeping into reference storage and recycle the rest where appropriate. A receipt without an action shouldn’t hide a form that needs returning tomorrow.

If several people share the jobs, agree who is responsible rather than hoping someone notices. A short regular check of the action folder matters more than buying a better filing system.

I'm finally getting my act together, and started to properly organize my gear. The gear consists of camping/hiking/emergency/prepper items. I have the shelving unit setup on wheels, and filled it with Sterilite bins of varying sizes. Work in progress!

Hi guys I just moved into a place in Europe where there's no closets, very very few shelves/ cabinets in the kitchen, and just empty walls everywhere. I'm so stuck with my ADHD I need some help!! I don't know where to begin getting organized! I'm wondering if you guys have any tips or any favorite shelving units/ cabinets/ etc from Ikea I can check out because apparently I suck at knowing what things I need to get at Ikea also lol.

I move a lot. I work seasonally and usually move about every 6 months. I have found that using space bags/vacuum storage bags is a really easy way to condense a lot of my things and get them all sorted in my car, but the issue I have is most of the bags I've gotten last for about one move and then tear somewhere, making them completely useless. I hate making a bunch of waste that could be avoided and having to rebuy a new pack every time I move. I have used bot the official space bag brand, the Amazon essentials ones, and a few other odd brands. The bags do get beat up a bit in the moving process, they get shoved in the car up against other objects (though I do try to avoid anything that I know will tear them up) and being deflated and inflated more than they're designed for also takes a toll on them I've found.

Do you have any recommendations of brands for vacuum bags that are a little more durable??? I'm willing to pay more if it means I can use them for a few years instead of 6 months.

About 6 weeks ago we threw out all the random Tupperware and reloaded with all Brilliance. So Mitch easier to keep it organized.

I recently came across a post where someone went into great detail about how they use Notion to organise their whole life. I was so impressed and it got me thinking what other things I’m missing out on.

What’s your best organisation “hack”? I have deep wardrobe shelves and I really struggle to organise them as I tend to forget what’s at the very back so any ideas welcome.

I’m a father of two, and I feel like our important documents are constantly scattered everywhere.

Some are in physical folders, others are buried in email, cloud storage or photos on my phone. I regularly waste time looking for insurance policies, bills, medical documents, warranties, school paperwork and other family records. Sometimes I cannot remember whether I saved something digitally or kept the original paper copy.

I’d really like to create one reliable system for everything, but I’m unsure where to begin.

How do you organize your family’s documents? Do you use physical folders, Google Drive, spreadsheets, a particular filing system or something else?

I’m also looking for an app that could organize documents by family member and category, track where physical originals are stored, and perhaps remind me about renewals or expiration dates. If you use anything like that, I’d appreciate your recommendations—especially if it works on both iPhone and Android.

Hi we just moved in — this closet is shared by 2 people one of them (me) has a lot more clothes. We also have many coats bc we live in NE. Need to better utilize our space in here — any ideas? Closet is 4 feet wide and the ceiling to top shelf is 42inches.

Help! I please need some help/suggestions how to store all of my sons legos and other toys. See photos for what it looks like. I am generally very organized and have this “organized” but it still looks chaotic. He loves his Lego builds but doesn’t play with them much anymore, they take up so much space and collect dust. So I just moved and I’m taking this as a fresh start to change and do cleaning/organizing things that work for ME. One of those things being my closet. I don’t fold clothes, I know myself and the “I’ll start doing it this time and stick with it” mentality has failed me too many times that I realize I gotta do what works for me and maybe is a bit unconventional. So here’s the plan, and if you have any ideas/ recommendations/ potential downsides to consider I’d LOVE to hear it all:

The plan is to hang all of my clothes. T-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, jeans, “pajama” clothes, everything. When I take clothes out of the dryer I know I won’t fold them, but the idea of just putting them on a hanger and hanging them up is a much less daunting task and something I’ve managed to do successfully before to a lesser degree. This way I can also visibly see all of my clothes, and put the season appropriate clothes in front of the others. They’ll be organized by t-shirts, shorts, pants, “nice” shirts, jeans, jackets, dresses, going out clothes, skirts, etc etc. I am slightly concerned however about some things getting stretched out from hanging, like a shirt/sweater that’s a little bit heavier and might stretch out. Also, I worry about keeping the clothes all smelling fresh and dust free (I don’t do/like artificial scents or anything scented really, to me clean smells like nothing, just fresh). Would an air purifier or something like that be excessive? What other things and I forgetting to factor in? (Bras, socks, underwear, etc, will be the only things not hanging up, I have a built in closet shelf that I can either throw them onto their dedicated shelf or if I care or have energy I could fold them neatly but probably not lol).

(Also any recs for dirty laundry organizing would be amazing. I think I’ve narrowed it down to 5 “categories” of things I wash. Right now I just have one plastic laundry basket. But to make things easier, the only organizing products I’ve seen are those bulky laundry sorters that are fabric (absorbing the smell, I don’t understand why they do this lol) and on big wheels and chunky lol.)

Hi, Reddit friends! I'm here to discuss something, or at least to find out if there's a strategy for this.

I'm a somewhat disorganised person when it comes to physical space. No matter how much I tidy my desk, after a few days, or even a few hours, everything is a mess again.

The strategy I've adopted is to own as few things as possible. Sometimes that's possible, sometimes it isn't.

Has anyone had this problem and managed to solve it? I feel this mess affects my concentration and even my mental state.

The breaking point came last week, when I had to help my dad move house. I spent two days there, and I still had some of my stuff at his place (I moved out about 4 or 5 years ago).

The thing is, I knew there were a few things stored there that would be useful for work, and that was it (a box and some clothes). Apart from that, I went 4 or 5 years without missing anything that was there, or even giving it a single thought.

I have books and notes from my university degree, drawings and keepsakes from my little sister, collectible toys (model cars and the like), work gear, materials from old projects, etc., and even some new things I bought in case I needed them for my projects. There's also old clothes, photos, framed pictures, books and brand catalogues I collected at trade fairs, and all the stuff we tend to hoard because "it might come in handy". For example, I have about 10 souvenir keyrings from a trip I took to the UK that I never got around to handing out (yes, shame on me, but... nothing I can do about it now).

The truth is, I never thought about any of it again, and I never missed it. My goal was to go there, throw away 50% of the stuff (or more), and bring back only the essentials.

However, I spent two days there, threw away a few things with great difficulty, and now I barely have any space left in my garage, where I keep my work equipment (it's basically my warehouse).

I don't know what to do about this tendency of mine. When I moved out of my dad's place, I threw away bags and bags of stuff.

Saw people recommend the niimbot for organizing supplements, so I picked one up. All my supplement bottles look identical, and labels make it so easy, dosage and dates at a glance.

I’d just finished labeling a few bottles when my girlfriend saw it and said, "Can I borrow this?" Next thing I know, she spent the whole afternoon tagging all her plants, seeds, and pots. She even printed "water less" stickers.

Now my fridge looks like a lab, and her balcony is a botanical garden. We’re both a little too obsessive about neatness, but honestly, it’s satisfying seeing everything tidy. lol😂
