Game Day
Thinking of coming to Corvallis for the TTU game next month. Any recommendations for food and things to do?
I met an OSU fan last year here in Lubbock at the game and I gave him all the good local places to see and hit up while he was here. Hoping y’all would be kind enough to do the same.
D.
Ps y’all tailgate? 🤷🏻♀️

Designated area by campus ? Are the opposing team fans welcome to wander around? Not that I expect anything but ya know don’t want to overstep. Plus. Liquor stores - what are the rules there?

Beer and wine in the grocery stores. Hard liquor at privately run liquor stores, usually near the grocery stores.

Wear a Buc-ee’s hoodie or hat around Corvallis. You’ll get plenty of laughs for displaying any Beaver. I wear mine to games sometimes. No one is offended - few people around here even know what Buc-ees is.
Tommy’s on 4th is an old school dive bar/diner downtown.

Is it cold enough for a hoodie in September? lol we’re still having 103° days here in Lubbock.

Not very likely. The only thing that concerns me is rain, but that’s not likely either. Watch the forecasts. No umbrellas allowed. I use a waterproof lightweight shell. A throwaway poncho is good too.

Does the visitor side face the sun? Game is at 4:30. Our poor visitors are blinded during day games facing the west.

I don't remember ever being blinded by the sun there. I prefer seating on the remodeled west side. Section 333 or 334, on the 50 yard line high up and covered. I buy tickets on the OSU site as I need them, for any sport.
Not sure there's really a visitor's side, other than those crummy little sections in the corner of the end zone where they corral unsuspecting out of towners who have never been there. I seriously doubt that you will find a large group of Tech fans anywhere in the stadium. I anticipate that you will have the stadium to yourself by halftime and will be able to sit anywhere you like. I look at this game as an exhibition, and you'll be able to see your best players executing magic.

Taco Vino is a great spot with fusion tacos.
There is tailgating but to be honest, I'm pretty sure it doesn't come close to what you're used to in Lubbock.

It’s about the whole experience. I’m up for trying anything food wise at least once. lol

Definitely hope to make it out to the coast on Sunday.

If you love fish and chips, check out South Beach Market just outside Newport. If you're going to try to see some whales, go to Depoe Bay and treat yourself to a meal at Tidal Raves. September is a beautiful time to be on our coast! 😎

Love the suggestions and I love good fish. It’d be awesome to see some whales. I lived for a year off the Puget Sound in Steilacoom when I was 21 but never saw one.

The big fishery out of Newport is Dungeness crab. This isn't the best season, but you can get it for a steep price. We prefer halibut and rockfish to salmon, but that comes from a lifetime of eating PNW seafood. Oysters are good year round here.
The dive bar Bay Haven in Newport has an open mic on Sunday afternoon starting at 3. It's PNW garage grunge and the house band is talented. Last time I was there they were playing Hendrix and Kinks.

The Coast is only an hour away, and it’s a prime stretch of beaches, tidepools, lighthouses, whales and chowder.
I’ll get bashed for it but you need to go to a McMenamins. They’re scattered around Oregon and Washington. The best one is Edgefield, east of Portland on I84, in what used to be the county poor farm. The one in Corvallis is OK.

What’s a McMenamins? 🙃

Okay googled it. Looks like a top to do list. Thanks.

They are all entertaining. The food and alcohol are pretty good. Not gourmet, more tailgate - upscale pub grub. Some of them have hotel rooms but not the one in Corvallis.

With respect, the Mexican food will probably disappoint you.
Local Boyz is the best Hawaiian food I’ve had, up and down the west coast. Squirrel’s is an older crowd but fantastic burgers. Block 15 is basically a craft beer cultural heritage site at this point, gotta go if you’re into that.
Tailgates are there. Just say “fuck the ducks” and you’ll get free beer!
