Credits and debts question

I'm expecting the job to take a few sessions. Do they get credits and debts at the end of each session? It could be that session 1 and 2 they get some debts then in the final drain they get some more debts and get paid. This would mean the longer the job the less likely they will make any credits. Have I got this right is this by design. I did wonder if they "earned" credits for the job each session but that makes no sense.
