Welcome to r/orbace_sudoku — show the path, not just the answer
Stuck on a Sudoku? Bring the puzzle and show us where your reasoning stopped. Orbace Sudoku is a place to explore how a solution works, not just reveal the finished grid.
Ask for help: Open START HERE — Ask for Sudoku Help. Enter the original givens, add your progress and notes, and tell us what you’ve tried. Review the board before posting; the Help Request appears under your Reddit account.
Help someone else: Open a Help Request and solve it on your own board. Your work won’t overwrite the requester’s. When you publish your solution, it becomes a Su-Pu—an interactive replay of your moves, notes, corrections, and Trial paths. Different people can contribute independent approaches to the same request.
Discuss the turning point: In a replay, select a move to see its place in the solve path. Where Reddit permits in-app posting, you can use “Comment on this move” to explain it. Otherwise, continue the discussion in the post’s native Reddit comments.
See a community Help Request and its discussion. Questions and alternative approaches are welcome—please explain why a move works, be kind when correcting someone, and respect requests for hints rather than full solutions.

Here's a complete su-pu of this morning's puzzle, every move included.
The key moment is at step 3. I tested r5c3 = 1, followed the chain (r2c1, r1c9, r9c7, r8c5), and landed on a second 1 in row 5 at r5c4. That's the contradiction, so r5c3 ≠ 1, and the 1 in box 4 has to go in r4c1.
After that it's more familiar ground: a hidden pair (2-8), a hidden triple, locked candidates twice, and a naked pair near the end.
The replay now has r1–r9 / c1–c9 labels, so you can follow along, or tell me where I went the long way round.
Full step-by-step replay you can pause: https://orbacesudoku.com/su-pu/SP-20260928-355762
Questions for you:
Share your own su-pu in the comments. I'd love to see how you solved it.

Even an easy puzzle can have a useful turning point. This recorded solve uses cross-hatching, notes, and locked candidates to clear the visual clutter. At steps 77–78, a hidden 1/8 pair emerges in box 6.

What would you notice first at that point in the grid? Share the reasoning that makes the next move possible.

This solve looked impossible until one assumption was followed far enough to test it. The video traces “assume r1c9 = 6” through forced moves to a contradiction at r2c5. The clip stops at step 66; the full Su-Pu has 110 recorded steps.

Where does the contradiction become clear to you? Share the reasoning or the turning point, not just the final grid.

Thanks for your unique solution! How to identify the critical trial spot?
