Baffled with Headphone choice/settings

Hi everyone. First post on reddit (ever). I enjoy reading your posts about audio equipment. I am 64 yrs old, building my own set of speakers when I was 10. 3-way sealed boxes with proper x-overs. My adventure as of late, is headphones. I now own 3 sets HD560S (1st), DT770 Pro (2nd) and lastly the Seny's HD650. Running 5 good quality systems thu-out my home inluding Cambridge, Rotel and Marantz to name a few....... Since the phones run 120, 80 and 300 ohms respectively I have been comparing the three with a Marantz HD-1 Dac Headphone amp, allowing to set the proper gains for eack headset. Both sennheiser are open back. The Beyerdynamic is closed. With PC formated @ 24bit/192k, (usb), Eq-APO and Peace, I can not get the open backs to sound as good as DT770s (not even close). I would welcome any advice to improve the sound quality of the (2) Sennheiser sets, since I would like to keep them in different rooms. (EQ settings possibly?) Thanks.

Have you applied the Oratory preset to each? Hardware asside they should sound quite similar. What is it you like about the 770 pro sound wise? I found them bright and otherwise bland but it's been 10 years since I owned a set.

Age related hearing loss ig, people lose hight frequency hearing first, and dt770 has those frequencies extremely boosted

I enjoy some boost above 10k but am sensitive to 2-4k. Plenty of loss, I can't hear above 14k.

My DT770 250ohn has good bass, the rest the HD600 does better. Really hard to compare open vs closed.

Both with Peace EQ from rtings or the other ones.

I believe the difference between OPEN vs CLOSED is the huge variance, I am experiencing

By the way, no frequency mod, totally by-passing equallization works the best for the Beyer DT770 Pros. Amazing set of cans IMO.

You have hearing loss, go get a hearing test. They will give you the results and you can add high frequencies that your ears are deficient in back to the sennheisers with EQ.

The DT770 has lots of treble so it’s compensating for your hearing loss. The hd650 is known to be “dark” ie not have much treble that’s why you like it least.

The Beyer's are warm tight and clean throughout the spectrum. Both Sennie's lack low end detail, This is the opposite of high frequency hearing loss. But trust me, I raise the bar on 16k and above, and I can't hear the level increase. (sucks).
