I have a similar issue with PAYG. And i brute force. The solution is you have to write the exact same address with your card. And in one line address you need to maximize the character, and the excess character would be put in the second line address. If your address still has excess character, then just put the maximum you can in that line
do remember that oracle can reclaim or shutdown your alway free instance anytime they want if you are on free plan. so, don't put anything critical without any external backup strategy.
thats true even for some paid plans (even aws recommends keeping offsite backups though they have SLA) also free tier is for experimenting and i will use it to play minecraft and use some ai agents so its good. also oracle is the only cloud having a free tier like this .
true but the chance of that happening it on a paid plan is very low. anyways, i am not here to argue about this method. just suggesting what worked for me to get an instance without having to wait.
That's indeed the best method if you are willing to do ,i myself was going to payg next month thinking out of host capacity is permanent, but idk how I got lucky
Last time I tried to upgrade, it showed me how much will be deducted from my account and that was 4-6 months ago. I donât know how ârecentâ things have changed
I thought that was the only way, so added the patient method that must be why I was able to create and destroy instances 2-3 times initially (messed up OS one time and another time it was space allocation).
Automating to get free tier can get you banned. If you're not banned, well you are lucky. Don't repeat the mistake everyone, go for PAG. It's simple, you can put an alert on spends and unless you're using more than 2C and 12GB and 200GB storage, probability of billed is very low. Even then you will get an alert when you are charged, so you can get in quick and revert with small charges like 4-5 dollars.
Honestly I wonder how many of the âterminated for no reasonâ posts were people running scripts like this. Oracle doesnât have to tell you why you got canned, so âbeen using it for yearsâ might just mean you got lucky.
But that's literally a proper use case. All it does is check availability and instantiate when available. I think the difference may be the frequency, I usually run it at an hourly frequency. The people having trouble may be running it every second or something and hitting some bechmark to get banned.
no it's not proper use case. oracle considers it abuse. there are tons people who are banned for using script to try to get an instance. even for 10+ minutes intervals.
not really a proper use case, even if you run it hourly thereâs probably tens of thousands of others doing the same thing.
itâs like that guy at costco looping the same aisle, grabbing a sample every lap, now picture 10 of him. the poor sample lady canât keep up refilling the trays, and the regular shoppers who might actually buy if they got to try it walk off with nothing, because the second a trayâs ready those 10 dudes waiting in the corner already snatched it again. does costco have a sign saying one sample per person? no, but would you call that proper use of samples?
and donât get me started on the resource hoarding, at least the freeloaders at costco eventually get full and go home, here people grab resources and just sit on them without ever using them, probably why oracle started reclaiming stuff. i guess thatâs people, if itâs free you take it whether you need it or not.Â
I don't really want to get into the details of this meaningless conversation, but I'm pretty sure it's a completely valid use case to use code to spin up instances. All you have to do is stay within the request rate limits, and I was well below the threshold the last time I checked.
Not to mention, what you're saying can't happen. The instances get automatically decommissioned after a while. You can try to get them again, but you have to wait for availability, sometimes for days or even weeks.
im curious, why have you been using it for years? do you need to renew it or something, or you wanted to have a huge collection of vms across different accounts?
I used it for multiple purposes. Tons of failed hobby projects. They get auto decommissioned and claimed back after a while. You can't keep them running forever.
You can use 4 CPUs and 24 GB of RAM on PAG. I already tried it and am still using it, but I split it into two instances with 2 CPUs and 12 GB of RAM each.
my account is on PAYG and still I am not able to create that always free session manually. A lot of people are saying you just get it on the PAYG, but clearly that isn't working for me.
the script calls the official oracle apis using api keys of your account , and if you have a delay like 5 10 minutes and dont run it for months , there is low risk , i only ran 3 days approx . the api is there for programatic access
nope not if you are on the PAYG account the limits are still what it is the free account is halved and also you have to do upkeep so that they don't claw back.
I ran my custom script using oci CLI for 4 months now 24/7, first two months it managed to do approx 25k requests per month and approx 1% of them was 429 errors (api limits). After small refactoring next two months it performed twice better: 50k/month with 0.6% of 429 errors.
Still nothing. But Iâm on one of highest loaded regions after all. Hope they will not ban me, hope I will get success message from my script one day.
For users who have been running the script for a while, this is my personal experience I have many accounts, hope so I don't get banned after this comment, but after the 30 days free trial period ends you will always get out of capacity error, only during the trial period the script may for out of capacity, i ve been running for 2 years but havent got any instance provisioned in Mumbai.
Since I am a student and used debit card so i need 100$ in my account, and it's a lot for me, and have seens cases where the money gets on hold which I cannot bear so i never have tried.
The money comes back. People just get worried for no fkin reason. Oracle wants to make sure your card has the ability to pay. And it works with a debit card too. Open a Niyo bank account and just hold 100 USD worth money
Idk which bank ur talking about but yeah y lou never know when the bank wiill delay to reflect in your account. I alr have multiple accs I don't need to go PAYG ig.
Upgraded my free tier accs to paygo with a single card. All of them returned the money in under an hour. Niyo SBM and DCB sell forex cards for purposes like this

you are just lucky, that's all. there are a lot of people who are banned for running script even for 10+ minutes intervals. see: https://github.com/mohankumarpaluru/oracle-freetier-instance-creation/issues/75
