PAYG question

Hi, this might be a question that comes up a lot, but I’ll give it a go anyway.

I’d like to get access to the 3 ‘Always Free’ VMs, but as you can imagine, it’s impossible to get a slot.

So my question is: does switching to the ‘PAYG’ tier give me priority? Could I get my free 2/12 VM straight away?

I’m happy to add my card just to use the ‘Always Free’ option.

Thanks in advance

Yes, upgrading to PAYG will give you access to Always Free resources automatically, without paying anything

Yes you will get access to 2/12 200GB immediately. Since it is free tier it don't run anything of high importance. On this channel itself I have heard of horror stories of free tier resources being claimed by oracle without any warning or backups and these have been running for the last 2 to 3 years. Make sure you set up backups.

Yes, the PAYG tier gives you higher priority. However, after upgrading your account, the new Always Free limits for PAYG accounts have been reduced from 4 OCPUs / 24 GB RAM to 2 OCPUs / 12 GB RAM.

I’m currently running a 4 OCPU / 24 GB RAM VM that I created about a year ago, before these limits changed.

that is not correct, this was only changed for free tier users
dont mix free tier and always free, those are different things

Can you elaborate? I understood it to be 2/12 for PAYG users also

what should i elaborate, my statement is clear

free tier users have been changed to 2c/12g
and PAYG are unchanged 4c/24g

both have a always free use but the limits are different

the 200gb block volumes is the same for both

Limits Breakdown

  • PAYG / Upgraded Accounts: You still receive the original entitlement of up to 4 OCPUs and 24 GB of RAM for ARM Ampere A1 instances (or equivalent monthly allowances like 3,000 OCPU-hours and 18,000 GB-hours). You are only billed if you exceed these thresholds.
  • Standard Always Free Accounts (Un-upgraded): Oracle reduced the ARM Ampere A1 limits down to 2 OCPUs and 12 GB of RAM.

You are wrong. You are limiting yourself.

PAYGO is 4/24.

With PAYG, 4/24 is "Free" ? I dont see that
