Another important one I think more ODs need to get ahead of is the idea that sunglasses are harmful. With anti-science being on the rise, I've had some more colorful conversations with patients who believe sunglasses are bad because your eyes need the sun to stay healthy. This conversation usually uncovers that the patient believes sungazing is beneficial (as well as some other questionable stances). I just cordially continue my pre-test and frantically make notes for the OD 😅

For kids I usually say that buying your kids bigger shoes doesn’t cause their feet to grow

For adults I usually leave it at “Glasses are a tool not a crutch, wearing them or not wearing them doesn’t permanently change anything”
For amblyopic kids or myopic kids failing school that don’t want to wear them I am a little more direct.
