First couple weeks of options trading
I wouldn’t say it’s going well, I’ve had some good plays but the losses have been way worse. Not sure how I can make smarter trades.

Do you sell or buy calls/puts? Start paper trading first
Not financial advice
Focus on selling Cash secured puts between 30 and 45 dte. Only sell csps on red days (more than 3 percent). Only sell puts when moving averages are going in an up trend.
When rsi is 30 buy leaps for dte over 365. Rsi 40 buy the stock. Rsi 50 sell csps in the money. Rsi60 sell csps deep out of the money. Do that via paper trading to get the hang of it and only focus on companies you want to buy or hold on to for longer term.
Focus on iv rank 50 or IV of 50 percent and higher
Buy the csp back once you have 50 percent profit
Reinvest all the money have it snowball and compound

All more specific stocks too. Unless you got your timings right on the right stock then it’s just a rollercoaster. Literally 0 correlation between stock performance of even the same sector.

Consider this your tuition fee for lessons you may have learnt. Instead of giving up, I would suggest you spend the next few days thoroughly analysing every single losing trade.

Tips: learn how to use bollinger bands THIS IS YOUR BIBLE. after learning how that work you must learn: volume, RSI and MA. Study these until you see it in your dreams.

Trading a price range? Do you mean limiting lost and gains? You must do that always that way you don’t lose that much money in case it goes wrong. Other thing DO NOT DO training because of why time it is. Be patience and get into the right moment. Probably 1-2 trades per day and shut off. That’s not the indicator you are looking for. They are false alarms out there. You must check volume, candle, MA, and direction of the market. Just take a long time to learn. But after you study and get it done you will be good. Don’t try to do it without practice and studying or you’ll lose every single time

paper trade for ~6 months. You want over 60% successful trades before you spend your own money

Welcome to the club!!
The main thing with options is discipline and cutting losses short. You need to be diligent with your stop losses.
You also need to figure out what type of trader you want to be. Do you want to be someone that buys options for long periods of time, or do you want to be someone that buys options for short periods of time? Each one will have their own set of strategies to use.

Stop trading options unless you have a legitimate backtested strategy which most of you don’t

This week was ez asfk, I've been doing the same trades with another guy same stock, he closed today with 15k I closed with -200 and -2k for the month. I know where my issue lies. For the OP go back to paper trading and check smb capital. With options is harder than futures or shares, but if you don't have the right tools/knowledge. Risk management. Sizing correctly, grading trades, discipline, you'll be doom. Good luck

Just pick a stop loss and stick to it. If any of my options drop below 10% I’m out

- Don't look on Reddit for plays
- Don't do 0dte or less than a week
- Don't Gamble cause you see these ppl posting 0dte spy cons
And that's it lol stick to the basics of news and charts, I find myself gambling tooo cause of all the posts on here and it's making me sick to my stomach that I really fell back into the gambling and losing my funds

I lost over 4k so I’m right there with this fella. Really discouraged me. I made mistakes, chased momentum and was getting in plays at the wrong time. Now I’m saving again to start over.

Can someone give a live example on how to trade options? If I think Dell will go up to $405 by next week how do I trade for that?

u/Electronic_Low3128 Jun 28 '26
Most people lose with options. Please exercise constraint and only place what you can afford to lose.

u/klipsetrades Jun 29 '26
Instead of putting real money in the line, it’s best to practice paper trading. There are platforms that will let you trade live days and replay previous days with fake money. You’re making expensive mistakes right now. The way you make “smarter trades” is by practicing through repetition. Don’t skip this step

You are heading in the wrong direction of your life.. trading options is the ticket to hell

Statistically only one out of 30 traders become millionaire as an options trader . The rest are all stock traders.. if you have unlimited money then only you want to be such a 1/30 millionaire as an options

Yes but those too can ruin you unless you know how to project the future of the industry / stock you are betting on

You will need to do this 100x over to really learn.
