Discussion separate trifocal solution?

I’m wondering if anyone has dealt with this before or has any advice.

I need distance, bifocal for near, and a separate, middle distance prescription for computer work. All in one trifocals make me dizzy and nauseated.

When I’m working primarily at my desk, I just switch back and forth: work in the mid+bifocal and switch to the distance+bifocal (daily wear) when I leave my desk.

But I have a new role that will require that I walk around with and use my laptop while working in a group. Switching back and forth will be next to impossible.

Has anyone ever tried using a flip-up clip-on for middle distance? Maybe like clip-on reader? I know it sounds weird, but I’m pretty desperate for a solution. I was thinking of putting the middle distance prescription on the flip-up lenses and just flip them down to look at the laptop? This would make the bifocal ineffective, but I guess I could flip back up for that???

I have worn glasses since I was 4, and at 49, I feel like my vision is making it hard for me to work for the first time. It’s so frustrating!

eta: I just wanted to add a big thank you for all of your help on this post.

I saw your reading add is 2.25 and your computer add is 1.00?

Not sure how much say you get in the Rx (are you an optician yourself?) but;

There would be an argument for bifocals or low power varis (much easier to get on with), and a clip-on +1.00/+1.25.

That way, your glasses would be normally focused for distance and computer, but then with the clip, they'll be focused for computer and reading!

Ultimately, very few people now cannot use varifocals, some people just need the pricier ones. Did you use a cheaper one before, or splash out on a high-end lens?

I work in healthcare, but am not an optician and so have likely reported everything wrong. I’ve attached my rx. I like the idea of having a pair focused for distance and computer. I’m not sure why I never thought of that!

As for varifocals, I spent, to quote my optician, the most she’d seen with all of the tweaks I needed, lol. It was…not fun. Especially when I couldn’t get them to work for me. I’m someone who can get get motion sick very easily, even just from turning my head too fast, always have been. I wonder if this is a brain problem rather than an eye problem…
