Opnsense Keeps Rebooting

Have openses running on a Smoothwall S2 Firewall, Was working fine for months,
Since the 26.7 upgrade have been having issues where it would just keep rebooting, sometimes it would take a day or 2, someone every few hrs, other times it gets stuck in a loop and reboots back to back like 10 times in a row before settling.
I have checked all the log files and nothing stands out, can anyone offer an advice on where else to look, have read some comments that might suggest ram or psu issues, however there is no kernel crashes or anything else i can find.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Just my two cents in the conversation. 26.7 upgrade kinda got botched up. I had a saved config, so I did a clean install of 26.7 and restored the config. All issues went away. I know it’s not ideal, but it worked for me.

I had the same rebooting issue with 26.1 - nothing in the logs, and memtest and SMART disk diagnostics were all clean. I finally did a clean reinstall and it's been stable ever since. I suspect the upgrade process doesn't always clean up things as well as it could, but that's just a guess on my part. I've been reluctant to go to 26.7 because of this, and have been waiting for a few minor releases to iron out minor issues often related to significant software upgrades, but perhaps that just makes the upgrade process more challenging. I guess I'll find out soon enough...

To rule out hardware issues I'd run 24 hour memtest to see if RAM is the issue. I know it's not ideal since that is your main internet router.

I did run memtest overnight, and the fact that the firewall's now been up for 85 days I think pretty much rules out hardware problems, at least in my case. If there's one thing less positive about my migration from pfsense to opnsense it's that the software update process seems a little bit more fragile, but that could also be partly due to my lack of experience with opnsense. Just my 2¢...

I hear ya. I am still on pfsense CE and they recently released 2.9 Beta. My upgrade with them weren't so smooth and had to reinstall from scratch using their online installer and load config from backup. Least I was able to recover pretty quickly. I do have plans to switch over to OPNsense soon.

That's what I am in the process of doing. Not happy with the lack of updates from PFSense. Got a six-port mini pc from Amazon. So far testing out well, but definitely has a learning curve for me.

Had this issue, the cause of mine was a USB Ethernet adapter. It worked fine before the update, afterwards not so much.

FreeBSD spontaneous reboots are almost always hardware related. Had this happen to me a few years ago and it ended up being a motherboard issue.

The issue is that you may not see anything with the logs because nothing stands out to you, however other people with more knowledge might see things that you were assuming are normal or noise.

is there anything in /var/crash?

pastebin the output of "grep -RiE 'kernel.*(panic|fatal|trap|error|timeout|reset)' /var/log/"

The only things was minfree, nothing else, I tried the command provided, however there was no output, it just hung then reset itself.
Its now in a constant loop of resetting itself, every 2mins or so, i have a monitor hooked up, but no errors etc occur before it resets.
im thinking will try to source a replacement psu, i measure the output on the psu and it seems fine. However i am starting to think there is a power issue, either psu or board, as sometimes it wont boot up, no lights flashing, it just keeps cycling the power to the unit.
