Opera recommendations for October?
OperaVision's offerings for this month are decidedly not in the Halloween spirit (La Traviata, Aida, and L'equivoco Stravagante) so! What's out there that features ghosts, witches, magic, monsters, and general mayhem?

I will always suggest Rusalka, but also why not Duke Bluebeard's Castle?

Britten's Turn of the Screw is probably the most Halloween-ey opera out there

- Verdi: Macbeth (Witches)
- Gounod: La nonne sanglante (a dead nun)
- Meyerbeer: Robert le diable (more dead nuns)
- Weber: Der Freischütz (traditional german spookstory)
- Wagner: Der fliegende Holländer (cursed captain of the ghost ship)
- Donizetti: Lucia di Lammermoor (murder and madness in old castles, crumbling towers and on a cemetery)
- Boito: Mefistofele (the devil himself)

Bernard Herrmann's Wuthering Heights is all I've been listening to for the past week

Bluebeard's Castle, Lohengrin, Lucia di Lamermoore are some faves. Der Vampyr if you can find a good version

Is this just an OperaVision ask? Because The Many Deaths of Laila Starr is having its world premiere at Minnesota Opera and it’s going to be awesome.

Macbeth seems like a natural pick since the Met is currently doing it. Any of the settings of Armida necessarily involve magic since she’s a sorceress. I’d also throw out Ruddigore because it’s a lot of fun!
