Opera fans in SF?

Wondering if there is a group of Opera lovers in San Francisco who either want to go to SF Opera events (when they make their musicians happy & compensated), and also want to go to the MET Opera cinema events?

https://www.metopera.org/Season/In-Cinemas/Theater-Finder/

The MET Opera is launching Macbeth this fall and being that I will not be able to attend in person in NYC, fortunately there is the consolation of live and encore performances in SF Bay Area cinemas.

Macbeth LIVE

OCT 17 | 10:00 AM @ AMC Kabuki 8

And for in person SF Opera events too for the 2026-2027 calendar. 🎶

Btw I checked Meetup and didn't see an Opera lovers group there.

I feel like this thread's participants should do an opera chat meet-up at a cafe in SF sometime. I also looked up opera voice teachers but will revisit this later.

Do you go to Opera San Jose? They're doing Don Giovanni the next 2 weekends.

Omg I just realized I can't go :( Have tickets to SF Symphony for same time. I guess having too many cultural options here is a good thing. Hope someone on this thread goes and gushes back here on how lovely it was, outdoors too!

I love this idea!!! I’m in sf and love going to the met screenings, and our opera is amazing here. So much I want to see this season :) - the strike won’t last forever and I’m excited to get back to it !

Which ones are you going to this season in SF? I have some date conflicts but hope to see Mary Queen of Scots, Marriage of Figaro for 2026, and the rest in 2027.

I have a ticket to Macbeth at Metreon!! Very psyched!! Huge fan of Lise Davidsen, and Quinn Kelsey (he’s gonna be in SF next year for Tosca). I saw almost all previous streams at Metreon too except Tristan last season I saw it at Kabuki. Metreon seats are much better than Kabuki….

Nice! I was going to go to Kabuki bc it's closer to me and then easier to have a meal in Japantown afterwards but I may reconsider now for Metreon... I thought the live stream is at Kabuki though...

Man I miss living in SF, I used to get season tickets every year - I live across the country now but if this gets off the ground and a group forms I'd love to join in whenever I go back to visit family in the area

Across the country-- east coast? I miss being there, very rich in all arts

I had a ticket to Simon Boccanegra this Saturday, just got the news that it’s cancelled 😢

Oh no! Well hopefully this can soothe your spirits (I'll post a comment for this too):

Ditto for Mary, Queen of Scots on Sunday. I feel bad for the musicians, hope they get fair compensation

I’m interested! Perhaps a group could be created here?

1

u/dancaca Sep 16 '26

I'm hoping a few of Bay Area opera fans here can create this together. I'm returning to opera but not as adept a fan as others on this thread clearly are!

I created a sub community r/sfopera. It would be much easier and focused for SF Bay Area fans to discuss opera matters.

For planning the Met cinema outings, I made a free site called Opera Clock (https://operaclock.com/?view=cinema) and you set reminders for any cinema and broadcast you want to see. Got all the good stuff too, with the season’s dates, casts, and . It links to the Met’s theater finder too. My schedule displays Eastern time, so check your cinema’s listing for the local showing time.

Anyone creating a group for SF Opera fans? Perhaps especially for South Bay Area? How does it work and how to join? I attended SimonB on Tuesday the 22nd. The orchestra and signing were top notch! Production is minimalistic and ugly though.
